Kitchen Sink -Third Time Lucky
Gamebookers £20? Gone.
The almost impossble Bodog $250 (having to bet $1250) challenge? Gone. ...but I'm insane enough to throw everything but the kitchen sink at trying to get a profit. There are no rules and I could sink myself to outrageous lows but I will bet on almost anything and everything if I think I can predict the outcome. This won't be restricted to novelty events or to any particular bookie. First bet? Trying to predict what the opening weekend totals of films will be....in this case The Da Vinci Code in the UK. Very popular with some of the offshore books in trying to predict the US box office weekend numbers (usually Thursday nights/Friday monnings that the odds are released) but it's very rare that there'll be odds for films opening in the UK (or even Germany like Intertops do and bizarrely enough even Paddy's have copied them. Good luck with that if you're having a go....I'm not that insane to try and predict the German box office! ).![]() http://www.sky-is-falling.co.uk/week...edictions.html I've put £20 on the 5/1 shot between £7,000,001 and £9 million.....just for the fook of it. Going along with the opinion of others is a tricky thing but the guy who runs the website is usually pretty solid in what the numbers will end up as. |

Re: Kitchen Sink -Third Time Lucky
The Laureus Sports Awards are on Monday and I feel I should 'hedge' with the 3/1 available on Liverpool over at Intertops but I do not like the pimping of Fernando Alonso or the Renault team in this fluff piece. Only £34.50 lost if Barcelona FC somehow don't win in Barcelona....I'll be surprised, I really will be if they don't win (just had a look over at Intertops....no odds movement in any of the categories at all. Hmmm.).
No bank just 'profit'. As long as I'm in the black and not 'heavily' in the red, I'll go for as long as I want until I can't take it any more (which by my reckoning could be a couple of weeks! ).In-running? Ante-post? Few minutes before the off? Right on the off? Anything is fair game. I don't even have to put up a reason for my selections if I don't feel like it. If I don't put it in here though, it doesn't count. |

Sky Is Falling reports that....
DA VINCI - Opens to around £2.7m on friday, a £7.5 - 8m likely. $224m world wide opening weekend, second biggest ever and biggest Internationsl weekend of all time beating Sith by $2m. ========== ....that'll do me. No more, no less.....please! This bet coming in will rescue my weekend, this will. ![]() |

Re: Kitchen Sink -Third Time Lucky
Sky Is Falling says:
DA VINCI - £8.4m opening weekend. Full figures coming Tuesday. 2nd Biggest opening of the year, around the 24th of all time. ========== BINGO! BANGO! BONGO! :drums Unless the figure inexplicably increases by £600,001, I'm not worried. My P/L though for the weekend because of Eurovision will have been....£0. ![]() |

Re: Kitchen Sink -Third Time Lucky
No time to cry although I've had a few days to get over it (very disappointed but that's the nature of estimates/actual numbers....you can always add as there always screens that have yet to be counted but it's very rare that a total will shrink).
X-Men 3: Take The Stand first weekend total at the US box office. Friday-to-Sunday total over at The Greek: Over/under $80 million. Over $80m is (-130) and Under $80m is (+100). I've put £50 on the over to win £38.46. It's Memorial Day weekend which means they chuck in Monday as well to make it a 'four-day weekend'. Ignore that. There'll be figures out in early evening on Sunday as ot what the weekend figure will be. US box office tracking suggests it should go over $80 million....just about though. World Sports Exchange (WSEX), Intertops and The Greek do odds for the US box office weekend totals but they're all early today (it's usually 1am GMT at the earliest on a Friday morning) as there's only one new film to look at. |

Re: Kitchen Sink -Third Time Lucky
Easy win so for this thread I'll be up if only a little. This from Box Office Guru.
Mutant maniacs stormed the multiplexes across North America on Friday and powered X-Men: The Last Stand to a jaw-dropping estimate of $44.5M giving the super hero sequel the second largest opening day gross in box office history. Including sold-out midnight shows from Thursday night, the mammoth figure trails only Star Wars Episode III (another Fox franchise film) which debuted to a record $50M on a Thursday last May. The newest X-Men installment now holds the record for the biggest Friday opening day ever beating the $40.1M of last November's Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Since the third X-Men installment is taking advantage of a fiercely loyal built-in audience, it is likely to see its opening Friday become a large percentage of the overall weekend gross. However, with the Monday holiday, Sunday sales will play out almost like another Saturday for the entire industry. Three years ago, X2: X-Men United bowed to $31.2M on its opening Friday on its way to a giant $85.6M weekend during the first frame of May. Two years ago, Fox opened its effects-heavy actioner The Day After Tomorrow over Memorial Day weekend and saw its Friday figure account for 36% of the $68.7M three-day gross. Since X-Men has more upfront demand, it should pull in more of its audience in the first day. That could put X-Men: The Last Stand on a course to pull in a towering $105-115M over just the Friday-to-Sunday portion of the holiday weekend. The four-day holiday tally would then be on a course to zoom past the $125M mark. ========== If you can get the knack playing the US box office first weekend totals correctly, it's almost like getting free money. |
