Re: Omaha
Oooo be careful you don't lose all that money back. Omaha is a different story to hold 'em. You can flop the nuts in omaha and the right play can actually be to fold, that basically never happens in hold 'em.
You are just playing omaha high I assume ? (ie not Hi/Lo) You HAVE to you two of the four cards you are dealt, not 1, not 3, not 4 but 2. So if you are dealt 4 aces it's shite cos you can only use 2 and of course there's no chance of flopping an ace as you have the other 2. It's usually crazy action in omaha as there are so many possibilities people stay in pots alot longer and call alot more bets. The best hand changes massively with the turn and the river having much more of an impact as people have more cards they can use. If the board is paired someone will almost always have a full house. Basic standard in omaha can be pretty bad as alot of people play it and really seem to have no clue how to play it properly, unlike with hold 'em where people do usually seem to know at least something. I wouldn't get too caught up as you openly admit you don't even know all the rules yet and to be throwing money around on something you don't even know the rules on is a bit dodgy surely. I'm not a great fan of omaha as it involves even more chance than hold 'em. The more chance there is the less skill there is. Of course the skillful player still wins but there are so many more ways to be beaten and get screwed in omaha. Like any game you have to know what you are doing if you are gonan win long term at it and it's one game which I definitely do not know enough about yet to play "seriously". |

Re: Omaha
I made quite a bit playing some 1/2 earlier, I take out my monthly earnings and give myself some money to "play" with and so I went to 2 1/2 NL cash games just buying in for $50 and seeing where it takes me, its suprising how easy it is to double up as a shortstack and Ive read about pros buying in low at tables as they can make special all in moves.ANyway so I decided to buy in $50 omaha with some of my winnings and low and behold I went on a mad run, I had a decent but not good understanding of what was going on, what seemed to work was just betting my hands massively, always pot sized bets as people were paying anything to draw. Craziest thing I saw was 3 people having 2 cards to a flush! Dont worry Alien I left at $300 after drawing in a massive pot to an open ended straight flush. Try it muse its good fun It is like playing the lottery though and I cannot see much skill involved at all.In a $25 tourney now ![]() |

Re: Omaha
Aye well thats why every sportsbook now has a poker site. Easy money for them it really is, no risk involved.
Which makes it all the more stupid when people say 'this sites rigged' or 'this sites a fcukin joke' etc etc |

Re: Omaha
Played some 1/2 NL, bought in for $30 and came accross some maniacs:
> Minucci posted small blind ($1) Dealt (8h 5d) > chrisgoatian posted big blind ($2) Dealt (8c 8s) > Game # 620,695,547 starting. > Dealing Hole Cards > jchb folded > PokerMusen folded > Pimpjuice707 folded > OFARLIG folded > Minucci raised for $9 > chrisgoatian called for $8 > Dealing the Flop(6h 4c 8d) > Minucci bet for $16 > chrisgoatian raised for $32 > Minucci went all-in for $180.55 > chrisgoatian went all-in for $63.35 > Extra chips returned to Minucci, $101.20 > Dealing the turn(Js) > Dealing the river(Kc) > chrisgoatian wins $207.70 with Three of a Kind, Eights ![]() The 1/2 level seems to have no better quality than the 25c/50c at all, you seem to get more and more nutters. |

Re: Omaha
I've played a bit of Omaha. I'd disagree with Alien in that I think it is a highly skilled game. However, you have to play it very differently to Hold'em. The first thing you have to realise is that there aren't the same monster favourite situations as in Hold'em. E.g. in Hold'em if you hold AA against KK you are a huge favourite and the other guy is goosed. You don't get that in Omaha. Equally there can be strange situations where you have the best hand but are a significant underdog. While you can have that in holdem, it is much rarer and you are never a significant (only a marginal) underdog.
E.g. in holdem you could have Q2 on a flop of QT2. Someone else holding KJ suited to the QT is a marginal favourite with two cards to come. In Omaha you could have someone with KQ42 on a flop of JT9 who could be 38-62% to win the hand against someone with AKT9 double suited You get fairly big swings in your stack with Omaha, so don't be surprised if your $800 turns into an $800 loss today ![]() |

Re: Omaha
Id be interested in learning more about Omaha but its one big pile of fun from what I can see!
I doubt id lose $800 in Omaha playing 25c/50c! And I know what your saying about the swings as everything changes from one card ot another. At one point before there was raise after raise before the flop and I was calling along the way with some average hand and in the end after each little raise I couldnt back out and about 7 people ended up all in with me winning with a full house 3's full of 4's ![]() It was played like a lottery when I was playing and there was very little room for skill form what I could say but you've more experience with it DOC and so ill take your word! |

Re: Omaha
just bear in mind there were people at the table probably cursing you thinking "wtf is this w@nker doing playing that hand" in the same way you might, playing holdem, when someone backdoors a flush draw against your AA with his 93s
![]() He probably said "this is like a lottery" too ![]() |

Re: Omaha
MrM just came and watched me for a bit and saw me take down a $375 pot in the 1/2
Thats my biggest ever now. lost the log by mistake.Dealt JQ suited I limp in and a few other callers then a min raise so I call, flop comes J 8 Q and im first to act so i bet $8 and one folds and then a shortstack raises to $24 only for the initial min raiser to re raise to $48 with a stack that covers mine..I think for a while and I think im ahead here, 9 10 is possible but I dont think the one with the big stack has it, so I move all my chips in, about $155 and the small stack calls the rest of his then the big stack calls without hesitation. He turns over AA ffs!! Whilst the short stack has Q9, wow I need a breather. ![]() |
