Yeah muze also makes a fair point, as I've mentioned before I would probably lead out betting with that flop hoping to be raised so I can then re-raise...making it harder for my opponent to lay the hand down as he has committed more money to the pot than if I check raise him.
It also gets any people drawing out as well. That was quite a good flop for you in the sense that there was no flush draw immediately there and the chances of someone having drawing cards ie 89 or 45 are probably a bit less due to the large pre-flop raises.
Ignore the fact he had made a set here, most other times he will not have made a set and you will bust him.
I've even bust people when they just shouldn't be in the hand.
Say for instance I've called a decent raise with 88 and the flop has come K82 rainbow. Now I've made a set and I try and get all my cash in and I do.
Cards are flipped and I of course expect AA or AK. But no, the person has QQ ! Even with a king on the flop they won't throw them away as they are too attached to their cards. Happens quite alot when someone has KK and an ace flops as well. Anyway I am digressing slightly, er yeah !

Doc it was a shorthaned game with 4 players at the table and this player was loose agressive, even if I knew for a fact he had QQ KK or AA before the flop I would of called with the implied odds I am getting.

Im not looking for sympathy Alien , im sure we've all had this happen to us, its just I did think he had KK when it came to the turn, and when i went all in I immediately thought KK but I couldnt get away from it. Im wondering if more experienced players would be able to suss this out especially given his check raise on the flop which is a bit of a giveaway isnt it.

Hitting your set in with a big raise pre flop is the biggest stack buster I know and I agree with Alien fully.

In regards to my check and call on the flop, there was no draw on here at all, no straight draw and no flush draw, I thought he would continue his bet after his pre flop raise and he was betting big and snowman was calling too so I thought I would drag him into the pot more and then put a raise in on the turn.

It probably is better to lead out but you know how it is, sometimes you get caught up with excitement and try and be too clever.

No straight draw ? What if someone had 89 or 45 ? As I have already said these hands are unlikely due to the large raises etc but it is still a straight draw.
