Hand Played Badly - advice please

on the bubble in a $10 mtt freezeout. avg stack 12k hero (me - TTR2112197040) 19k, villian 22k. Id only played 10 hands with him and had no read. I found myself in a situation where i could and possibly should have lost all my chips and paid off the fellas over pair like a donkey. How would you have played this differantly?

I know i played it badly. I just dont know what else i could have done. checked the turn for pot control?

him calling the turn made me think i was up against a big pair and wtf was my river bet all about? i was only getting called if i was beat. maybe he would have called a smaller bet with AK or simialr.

I think although you played it in consistently (I didnt look at your hole cards so put you on an over card with a paired kicker, by the river I was thinking trip 5's perhaps with an A or K?) end of the day, he probably had two over cards, like you say and A K or A Q, and was looking to pair one off.

thanks for the reply Pete. I just felt i played it pretty weakly. I felt i had over commited myself to top pair shite kicker. suppose if he had an over pair he would have reraised me on the flop with that drawy board. maybe if i had checked the turn and gave him a free card then that would have been a weak play although small ball theorists might not agree

aye if he had raised me on the flop i would have folded. Playing top pair to a preflop raise and then a reraise ont he flop would be the novice way of playing it.

Couldve been worse, he couldve called your all-in

nah thats what im saying spacecat. If he had called he could only call me with a better hand. Maybe if i had bet just 5k say he might have called still thinking that his ace high was good. My bet on the river made no sense whatsoever.
