It seems to me that Dan Harrington's books are almost an essential read for anyone that wants to partake in MTT's. I would put copies of them on our frontpage but out poker strategy page has disappeared. I will look into it. Action dan gives a great description of your q by relating it to a football game. Lets look at it in a 'soccer' game so as we might understand it more.

Early first half the teams playing solid. Passing the ball about, looking for chances not putting too much forward. suddenly with a bad beat your a goal down at half time. Next half your out looking to get that goal back. suddenly your 2 down and chasing te game. you havent got much left and what you have your piling forward. the fcuking goalies up for corners and suddenly all that time becomes so precious. thats like a mtt. you might have built up a stack 4 times anyone and be the chip leader out the park but how much are your chips worth as the blinds and antes goes up and your sitting waiting for a good hand? anyhow this thread is about M. M is something thats always been about and stick out toungue backgammon weirdo paul Magrie ?) gets the credit for putting it into words.I dont know hwat it all is yet but i feel its essential to my mtt play and why i am not winning as much money as i should. Maybe we can work it out.

M = the ratio of your stack to the blinds and antes.

blinds 1000/2000 antes 500, 9 player table = 75000. your stack 35,000 makes your M = to 35,000 divided by 7500 or 7500 into 35,000 which would = about 4.5 of M

M zones in tournies =

20+ M - GREEN - steady normal poker. take a few shots, mix it up and play good solid poker and maybe even just a ring game stylee (i dunno)

YELLOW - 10-20 M - small pairs and suited connectors to be binned from early positions.

Orange - 6-10 M - - the above and maybe stop calling for odds sake. what sort f odds should you be making auto calls for anyhow? if im getting 3/1 i must admit i call with anything but NOT IN THE ORANGE M

(this is all new to me tonight but essential to each and every one of us to understand)

RED 1-5 M - 'danger danger will robinson' action dan tells us. I forget but i think your just in any pot that n one had entereed and your all in with about any 2 big cards.

He describes a zone below RED zone even but really its not a place that you want to put yourself conciously so ill forget it.


Anyhow i will cntinue this later when i understand it all more. Look out for ...nothing.
