Confirmed
Another close one but it sneaked home. Interesting to see the 1-8 fav for highest ratings(Eastenders) got beaten by Dibley.Quote:

Re: Xmas Speech Bets
Worth ttt ing this thread rather than creating a new ones since it has a bit of research in it too. Plus it makes it look like I do actually research them rather than pressing buttons after a night on the sauce.
Unfortunately there is only the one market from PP so far this year, a little poor, but worth a look nonetheless: What will the queen say first: Economy 2/1 Afghanistan 5/1 Gordon Brown 7/1 David Cameron 7/1 Iraq 8/1 Environment 8/1 Prime Minister 8/1 Barack Obama 8/1 World Peace 10/1 Terrorism 12/1 Olympics 18/1 Spirit of the People 20/1 Forget the rest, infact forget most of them too... |

Re: Xmas Speech Bets
I'm pretty sure the economy will hose up again this year just as it did last. Gran was barely in her chair before the Queen had fired it out...
"Christmas is a time for celebration, but this year it is a more sombre occasion for many. Some of those things which could once have been taken for granted suddenly seem less certain and, naturally, give rise to feelings of insecurity. People are touched by events which have their roots far across the world. Whether it is the global economy or violence in a distant land, the effects can be keenly felt at home." Iraq and Afghanistan followed not long after(in that order too, and given its unlikely she will mention one and not the other it seems peculiar that Afghanistan is shorter...would think the order will remain the same.) Although the Environment punt came in a few years ago - that was good fortune more than anything and it doesnt usually get a look in, perhaps a little too political? People dont tend to get name dropped in this so the Cameron and Brown bets are of no interest - prime minister would be the punt there. But it's the economy for me - even more than last year its the #1 thing going on for the man in the street, and HM will get it out there pronto. It's got to be in there before any other political issue - conflicts will be early too but probably just after(same sentence.) 4pts Economy @ 2/1 with Paddy Power Bring it home Liz! ![]() |

Re: Xmas Speech Bets
Did cross my mind Pete and its an important point - for one reason or another it's a topic she continues to shy away from - is it one that she sees as too political/controversial?
Even when the G8 was in Scotland I dont think she gave it a mention in her speech - will have to check that though. Nevertheless its probably the only one I could see nipping in there ahead of the economy so a half point saver might be in order. |
