Re: Wimbledon Men's Semi's 1st July

Those odds on Johannsen look very tempting given the way he has been playing throughout the tourney.
Roddick has played well throughout but is no way near his best.
Going to take a look at this and then come back.

Re: Wimbledon Men's Semi's 1st July

You mean the semifinal between johannson und roddick will be a tight match, but the advantages are on the swedish one?
So I could stake the set - bet johannson 3-2 for 10.00 :yikes a good odd

You donīt think that the final will call: Andy Roddick vs Roger Federer?

Re: Wimbledon Men's Semi's 1st July

Im interested in Johansson aswell. He is a right grinder of a player and is difficult to play against. He hasnt particularly had a tough ride so far i dont think and this could work against him. But against those odds he is worth a dabble.

Roddick on the other hand will put in a world class first set then play an amateur game next set. He has been struggling for consistency every game. Against Grossjean i felt he got lucky, it was more Grossjeans poor doings than Roddicks great game.

Hewitt again is worth a dabble at those odds. Him along with Federer have been the two most impressive players in the male side of the tournament. Very tough one to call and i think its best left for in running.

Re: Wimbledon Men's Semi's 1st July

After ummming and ahhing all night, I don't think there's much that sticks out for tomorrow. Roddick is blowing so hot and cold he is impossible to read - he looked brilliant and hopeless in the same match v Grosjean, so who can tell which one will turn up tomorrow.

Likewise, the other is tricky to read. Hewitt has been looking good, but that fact remains that Federer is better than Hewitt in almost every part of the game, and so if we take a Hewitt strength(lets say returning), we can see that Federer is even better. Not only that, but in the last 7 meetings between the two, Federer has won every single one. For all Hewitt's mental toughness, if he goes down in the first set, it will only be human of him to begin to think 'Here we go again.'

So staying out of the outright and handicap markets, maybe there is still a few bets that look good.

Lets try:

Hewitt - More Aces v Federer

Its a matchup of two strong returners, and two decent servers. Neither stands out, and the stats back that up.

Hewitt has played a total of 175 games, hitting 74 aces and allowing 42 aces.

Federer has played a total of 160 aces, hitting 60 and allowing just 17.

Of course, what stands out there is that Federer has allowed a lot less, but it needs to be considered that the majority of Hewitt's allowed aces came against big serving opposition in Taylor Dent and Justin Gimelstob. Taking those two away, and the averages are very similar.

Federer has been serving well throughout the tournament, while Hewitt upped his game in the Quarter Final. I expect further improvement from the Aussie, as he will know he will have to be bang in form with his first serves if he is to have any chance.

This one could go either way, but as I rate it perhaps a 50-50 chance, maybe leaning slightly towards Federer, I see no reason for the odds to be so high for Hewitt on Betfair.

1pt @ 2.90 on Betfair.

Re: Wimbledon Men's Semi's 1st July

Still think the odds on Johanssen are generous and I think I'm going to take a chance that Roddick will blow cold today.
Roddick has been inconsistent throughout the tournament and as Beanie says has looked top drawer at the start of some matches then just seems to fall away, although in previous games he has been able to get away with it..... I just think that at this time in the tournament Johanssen has a great shot at beaten him and his battling qualities impress me

10pts on Johannsen @ 5.00 for me today

Re: Wimbledon Men's Semi's 1st July

I am taking the following today:

15pts Roddick vs Johansson 4.5 Betfair

Interesting reason for this choice was that whilst away last week in Sweden I got talking to a guy about Mens tennis on the way home after a night out. Admitedly I was extremely boozed up, but this guy could not enthuse enough about Johansson's chances of actually winning the trophy! He had him up there with Edberg and Bjorg as a possible future Swedish great! True to form and a week later he is in the semi finals.

Re: Wimbledon Men's Semi's 1st July

Seems to be a nice backing for Johansson - im just going to take small stakes on him to win. All in all - if Davenport ends up winning i might just give these games a miss as im not entirely confident about anything. Anyone know what time they are due on court at?

Do you's think the set betting with Hewitt might be the better bet? Because like you's say, Federer is on another level but i do feel Hewitt can get one set at least.

3-2 @ 8.5 might be the call.

Still can't find the men's doubles outright or match Beanie

Re: Wimbledon Men's Semi's 1st July

Gamebookers have the match ready Kiko...and go 4.15 on Huss/Moodie, and they play number one seeds and bang in form duo Bjorkman/Mirnyi. Starts at Noon.

Im also interested in Bjorkman/Raymond v Woodbridge/Stosur. Its the only competition that Woodbridge is left in, in what will be his last Wimbledon, and he faces up against his old men's doubles partner Bjorkman(who he won 2 or 3 men's doubles titles with.) Wonder how the two will be feeling - will Bjorkman be ruthless enough to put out his great friend on his swansong? Who knows, but the bookies have Woodbridge and co at quite tempting prices to win this one, and it would be disappointing to see his amazing Wimbledon career come to an end with defeat today.

Men's singles start at 1pm with Fed v Hewitt, with Roddick match straight after.

Re: Wimbledon Men's Semi's 1st July

Cheers - quite high odds but they are playing possibly a formidible pairing. Well on paper they are - not sure how they play together as i have never seen them before as a doubles pairing. Anyone have any knowledge on them?
