Golf: US PGA Tour: Buick Open 17th August

Here's the early betting:

Tiger Woods3
Jim Furyk9
Vijay Singh11
Geoff Ogilvy28
Chris DiMarco33

Tiger Woods has an exceptional record in this tournament over the last 5 years

2002: winner
2003: T2
2004: 3rd
2005: T2

Vijay Singh is even better, having won it the last 2 years and also in 1997. He'll be looking for a record breaking '3peat' this week : tough call , but he has the game for this course.

Looking at the betting , I'd say Woods @ 3/1 is a good pick. He has stated many times how much he likes this course , and it is all down to low scoring. Much like the Deutsche Bank , it will be about who can go the lowest on a course that is just giving it away.
Those are the same odds for him to win the last Major :The PGA , and that field will be FULL of the world's best, whereas here he is competing against Singh(3), Furyk(4), Ogilvy(8) and Di Marco(13)....all great players , but not offering the same threat without Els(7) and Mickleson(2), and Goosen(5).

Woods will play this tournament then take a week off and prepare for the PGA. He's happy with his game. Got the emotional 'monkey' off his back with the Open win and I think he will stride round this course with a 'back on track' mentality. Going to be a hard to beat him.

Singh and the others have beaten Woods at some time or another , but when it comes down to a straight fight to who can hit the birdies/eagles ...you want to have Tiger on your side.

It's important to bear in mind that he is fresher than most others...with only 35 rounds of golf, compared to Singh , Furyk and Ogilvy who are all over 60. It may not seem a big difference but it does come into play when you are travelling between Continents at this time of the season. I think so anyway.

This is my only selection at this time as I see it as definite value.

Picked out 2 more :

Sean O'Hair : e/w @ 66 sportingodds , totalbet
He's a huge talent . Got a power game on him , plus he can use a very nice touch when called for.
An Aggressive attitude will be needed at Warwick Hills this week, and confidence in going for the shots: O'Hair has both. Already a winner on the tour , he played the British Open well enough in 14th , scoring well , but obviously at odds with the course. If he starts well he should be there all the way.

Geoff Ogilvy :win bet @ 20 VC bet
An impressive win the the World Matchplay , and then the US OPEN ..this is a guy who is only starting to realise his potential. His power off the tee and bold approach shots will give him lots of birdie/eagle opportunities this week. I think he, like many others this week , will enjoy the very basic 'rip it' layout of the course.

Cracking work as ever with the golf Eddy, enjoying your golfing posts.

I have some scraps left in my Betfair account so will be sticking it on your long odd punts.

Good luck

Re: Golf: US PGA Tour: Buick Open 17th August

Final Round:
Woods is 2 shots clear with 18 to play and he is now well odds on across the board. Will be very hard to peg back as he is in a good groove , hitting 66/66/66. Scoring on both sides of the course as well.
Looks good for collecting on the 3/1 ante-post , but we'll celebrate when he's picking up the trophy.

Sean O'Hair...sitting in T10 , got quite a few ahead of him , but he has a great chance of place money if he keeps progressing as he has over the 3 rounds.

Ogilvy, tipped @ 20's is a dead bet. Never found his stride at all , but still playing well enough, I suppose.

Kiko...good luck with O'Hair, mate.

Woods wins ....tipped @ 3/1
O'Hair T4.....3 way tie there Kiko, but still a profit e/w @ 66 !

I thought Taylor was a nap to take a clear 4th but he found nothing over the last 8.

A winner at last!
