Re: Boxing June 2010

I just spent half an hour writing up asomething on the first decent bet the month, which was to be Tony Thompson v Friday Ahunanya. But just found out fight off as Thompson injured. Arrgggghh! Let's hope it's nothing trivial.

Meh. Those with chronic gambling issues could I suppose have a bawbee or two on Rachman round betting. That's Hasim Rachman, American who upset Lennox Lewis a good few years ago. Rachman is still actually only 37 - not young, but not decrepid in boxing years - particularly at heavyweight. After losing his rematch to LL in '01, The Rock went on to hold the WBC portion of the world title in 2005/6 ish, then made another bid for the title - now held by Wlad Klit - in 2008. Rachman was given a pretty beating.
Rachman has only just started on the comeback trail for what must be his final time. After a 15 month lay off, he was back this March to stop tomato can Clinton Boldridge in the first round. In fairness though your granny could stop Boldridge in the first round. And she's probably a little younger than him too.

Tonights oppnent is Shannon Miller, who's a 16-4 journeyman who's lost 3 of 4 by stoppage. Joe Mesi KOd Miller inside a round three years ago, and although age is going to be Rachman's biggest enemy from now on, he still has far too much class and a world class pop to dispose of Miller who, I personally think, would be more than happy to stay on the canvas after sampling what someone of Rachman's caliber can do to your face.

SportingBet are pretty generous in offering 4/6 about Rachman winning in rds 1-5, but in any case they go 3/4 for under 5.5rds which obviously makes a mockery of their rd group betting offering.

Meanwhile though Boylesports have dipped a toe into rickland with the round betting. Not quite a Maccarinnelli/Gunn rick, but pretty juicy all the same. Rachman is on offer at 10/1 for a 1st round stoppage and 8s in 2nd, 3rd or 4th.

For a bit on fun in the wee small hours stick a tenner on the 1st round. However I'm fairly confident you could go in quite hard on the 1st and 2nd rounds with just stake savers on rds 3 & 4 to for a pretty decent payout.
