Irish Middleweight Andy Lee 20-1 takes on French journeyman Thiam 46-8 in Limerick tonight.
Lee is a general 1/16 which is actually pretty fair. Thiam was European champ at light middle 10 years ago but more recently has been an opponent for boxers on the fringes of world class, or at least aspiring to be on the fringes. All but one of his defeats have been by knockout.
Lee has decent pop. 14 KOs from his 20 wins, while most of those he failed to budge have their chin franked by their record. His only defeat came pretty brutally at the hands of Brian Vera a couple of years ago, but Thiam isn't going to muster up the sort of performance the capable Vera did that night.
Worth bearing in mind Thiam has an impressive 43KOs from his 46 victories, although you have to check this against his quality of opponent and his age (now 38). A safe option I should thunk is the fight not to go the distance - 4/6 with
Paddys and
Ladbrokes.
However Lee should have too much for Thiam, and should dispose of him inside the 10. Going therefore for
Lee by KO/TKO/DQ @ EVENS with Boylesports
