NBA: New Year's Day Picks
First post, so lets see how things go...
New York Knicks @ Atlanta Hawks: Over 205
The Hawks and Knicks have faced each other twice this year so far and both games have gone way over 200 points, with each team reaching 100+ on the road and at home. Both teams tend to score heavily, especially the Hawks at home where they are usually dominant, but a resurgent Knicks team spearheaded by a number of 3-point shooters including Danilo Gallinari and a useful big man in David Lee should also provide an offensive threat.
Orlando Magic @ Minnesota Timberwolves: Magic -8
Difficult one here but I like the Magic to win by 10 or so, despite some troubles on the road. If this were not the first game of their road trip then I would perhaps take Minnesota instead, but Orlando are looking to cement their lead at the top of the Southeast Division and are 16-1 vs sub .500 teams this year, so look for the Magic to run out comfortable winners here.
Sacramento Kings @ LA Lakers: Kings +12
Whether Tyreke Evans returns tonight for the Kings or not, Sacramento should still be able to stay within 10 points of a Lakers side struggling defensively without Ron Artest. LA should still win at home, but 12 points seems like too bigger handicap for them to cover, especially with Kobe Bryant suffering from a broken finger and apparently, exhaustion. Look for the Kings to keep it close.
