Re: GAA june weekend 20 21
Saturday, June 20th
Munster SHC semi final replay Limerick v. Waterford The sides meet for the second time in six days and let’s up that they produce a better quality of hurling than they did from the last Sunday. In a remarkably low scoring game, even allowing for the conditions, both sides will be looking for a marked improvement on Saturday. Waterford didn’t manage a score from play in the second half, which will be a worrying factor for manager Davy Fitz. The loss of Ken McGrath is a blow, although it was obvious that he was not near his best in the drawn match. Dan Shanahan should start the next day and his aerial threat can cause problems for the Limerick defence. The Shannonsiders will feel that they left it behind, but if Andrew O’Shaughnessy can regain his form, then they may just finish the job this weekend. Verdict: Limerick SMK VERDICT: WATERFORD, FROM WHAT SUIR SAYS, i THINK THEY SHOULD DO THIS AND BE DONE WITH Connacht SFC semi final Mayo v. Roscommon Both sides may have played a game in the championship already, but Roscommon will certainly have learned more from their run out against Leitrim then Mayo did against New York. The Rossies have had to plan without influential midfielder Stephen O’Neill, but they coped with his loss against Leitrim and that will have given them great confidence ahead of Saturday’s game. This was in fact Roscommon’s first Connacht championship win in five years. Mayo have injury concerns over captain Trevor Mortimer, who has a hamstring complaint, while goalkeeper David Clarke is definitely out with a torn groin. Pat Harte, Alan Dillon and Tom Cunniffe are all struggling too and if all were to miss out, it would stretch Mayo’s resources. However, John O’Mahony has the experience and knows how to cope and his charges should prove too strong for Roscommon. Verdict: Mayo SMK VERDICT, YEAH MAYO TOO STRONG ROSCOMMON TOO SHITE END OF DISCUSSION. Leinster SHC semi final Kilkenny v. Galway Tullamore is the venue for this eagerly awaited tie. Two of the top counties in the country go head-to-head for a place in the Leinster final. For Kilkenny facing tough competition at this stage of the year is something that they haven’t experienced in a number of years. For Galway, the old excuse of not playing enough competitive games is now defunct. The Cats have a number of injury concerns ahead of the match, but they have shown time and time again that they have the strength in depth to cope with the losses. The likes of Noel Hickey, Brian Hogan and Derek Lyng are definitely out, but Cha Fitzpatrick looks set to make it. Galway have a major doubt over star forward Joe Canning and simply if he is not playing, they will not win. Canning is arguably the best young hurler in the country and the Tribesmen need his presence on the edge of the square. The Connacht side faces a difficult task enough, but the loss of the Portumna forward would be detrimental to their chances. Verdict: Kilkenny SMK VERDICT, THIS WILL BE A CRACKER OF A GAME, BUT I THINK GALWAY WILL RUN IT CLOSE, KILKENNY WILL BE COMPLACENT ABOUT THIS GAME I THINK, AND A SUPRISE COULD HAPPEN. IM PUNTING FOR A DRAW HERE. Sunday, June 20th Ulster SFC semi final Tyrone v. Derry The winners of this match will surely go into the Ulster final as favourites, but who will it be? The loss of Fergal Doherty, Brian Mullan, James Kielt, Patsy Bradley, Paul Cartin, James Conway and Enda Muldoon is a huge blow to the Oakleafers. Doherty and Mullan miss the game through suspension, while Conway has been dropped from the panel and the rest are injured. It is huge setback for Damien Cassidy and one that they will struggle to overcome. In the Tyrone camp, it’s all good news as they have a clean bill of health with captain Brian Dooher expected to start his first match since the All-Ireland final last September. Derry at full strength had a great chance of reaching the Ulster final, but with so many missing; it’s hard to see anything other than a Tyrone win. Verdict: Tyrone DERRY LOSE A LOT OF GOOD PLAYERS HERE, IF THEY WERE AT FULL STRENGTH I WOULD GO FOR THE DERRY WIN, BUT THEY ARE NOT, SO I WONT, TYRONE WIN Leinster SHC semi final Wexford v. Dublin Dublin have the chance to gain revenge from last year’s agonising defeat to the same opposition. It took two games to separate the sides on that occasion and once again it could be very close this weekend. The Dubs’ progress can be monitored by the fact that many believed they were poor against Antrim the last day when in fact they had ten points to spare over the Saffrons, who up until recent years would be beating Dublin comfortably. Anthony Daly seems to have instilled a confidence into side and the likes of Alan McCrabbe and in particular David O’Callaghan are two of the top forwards in the country. Wexford have been on a slippery slope for a few years now and that slope may get steeper come Sunday evening. Verdict: Dublin SMK VERDICT, MMM I AM GOING FOR A WEXFORD WIN HERE, DUBLIN ARE GOOD, BUT I THINK WEXFORD CAN UPSET HERE. Munster SHC semi final Tipperary v. Clare A solid league campaign followed by a tough Munster championship opener against Cork will have Tipp in flying form come Sunday. They are the team capable of knocking Kilkenny off their perch. Standing in their way this weekend is a Clare side that has been going through a transitional period. Conor Cooney looks set to miss out through injury, but better news for the banner is that Gerry O’Grady and Jonathan Clancy have overcome their injuries. The loss of Gerry Quinn is massive. His experience would have been vital in an otherwise inexperienced backline. A comfortable win for Tipp is on the cards here. Verdict: Tipperary SMK VERDICT TIPPERARY YEAH SHOULD BE STRAIGHT FORWARD |

Re: GAA june weekend 20 21
SMK i take everything you say with a pinch of salt considering you admitted to not knowing that carlow have a hurling team. They were the surprise package of the NHL so you must be one of those championship-only fans. Nevermind the fact that EVERY county has a hurling team and that based on the league postions Carlow are in the top third.
Back to this weekends games and i cant for the life of me see why Limerick are as big as 11/8 to win the replay versus Waterford. I would have this game at 10/11 Waterford, 11/10 Limerick, if not EVS both teams. |

Re: GAA june weekend 20 21
tw carlow dont register on the hurling scene at all, kerry have done in the past, they are right beside cork, east kerry strong hurling, geography hmmm??
Carlow I said that sarcastically hmm?? As for the fact that all counties have hurling teams, so what, the majority are shite, why dont kilkenny feild a gaelic team, cos they are shite thats why, maybe the counties that are shite, which is the majority, concentrate on football, leave the hurling, as for taking it with a pich of salt, i couldnt care less what u think, seriously dude, get over urself |

Re: GAA june weekend 20 21
I was at the game between Waterford and Limerick last week and I am going to be at the replay today. Last week turned out to be a game of cat and mouse between the 2 managers and it completely destroyed the game. I believe the game is priced up correctly, last weeks game was Waterford playing badly and Limerick at their best. We played a bit of the old entertaining hurling in the first half and showed we were too good for Limerick, the ref was pure shite also last week and favoured Limerick. I have put Waterford in my accum this week as one of my bankers, we are not All Ireland material but we are better than Limerick.
I also fancy Wexford this weekend, the championship is a different game. Waterford, Killkenny, Tipperary, Wexford, to win in the hurling. Tyrone & Mayo in the football both to win. UP THE DEISE! |
