Re: Boxing: 05/08/07

The warrior's approach is to say "yes" to life; "yea to it all".
So said American author Joseph Campbell. This weekend two warriors light in weight but heavy in stature say "yeah to it all" as they do battle to see who is the best fighter at 122 pounds in the world.
In one corner we have Rafael Marquez, one half of the formidable Marquez fighting clan, a warrior from Mexico City and a man with dynamite in his gloves.
In the other we have Israel Vasquez, a man with expertise, talent and heavy hands.
The pair have waged war already this year, with Vasquez forced to retire after seven magnificent rounds due to breathing difficulties sustained when he walked into one of Marquez's marquee right hands.
The odds men in Las Vegas are convinced it will be repeat rather than revenge when the pair square up in the early hours of August 5, but I beg to differ.
Yes Marquez is a fantastically sculpted, mercurially talented fighter from the Ignacio 'Nacho' Beristain production line of champions.
He is 37-3 and on a seven year unbeaten run.
However he isn't Jake LaMotta when it comes to the chin department, can sometimes be wide open and truth be told far too short here at 2/5.
Their first fight was a shoot-out with both boxers hitting the deck and but for Vasquez breaking his nose in the very early stages of the fight, the outcome could have been so different.
It says a lot for a world champion when he loses to want to jump straight back in with his conqueror.
It says he is either delusional or confident on delivering another outcome second time around.
I'm willing to wager the 41-4 (30) former WBC champion still has a bit in his locker, and after dropping Marquez first time round with a broken nose and a mouth full of blood, I'm sure he is well worth a punt at 9/4 to exact his revenge and better still at 4/1 to to it via a stoppage.
In the other big fight this weekend Erik 'El Terrible' Morales bids to become the first ever Mexican fighter to win a world title at four different weights.
The Tijuana Terror has been on the scene since 1993 and was unbeaten of course in his first 41 fights before bitter rival Marco Antonio Barrera decisioned him in 2002.
This future Hall-Of-Famer may only be 30 but has lost three of his last four fights and there are signs he may have seen better days.
He is also not a natural lightweight and so facing Miami southpaw David Diaz is probably not recommended, especially given the fact the American has compiled a 32-1-1 ledger.
However looks can be deceiving and the Diaz record, on further inspection, is not as great as it seems.
He has messed with some bad men but never someone of the ilk of Morales who, on the slide or not, should have far too much in terms of ring craft, cunning and guile.
Morales is a shade of odds-on to win the fight but given that he has not really carried his power up to lightweight a bet on him winning via decision at 6/4 looks the logical call
