Omaha

Anyone know how to play this? Is it easy enough to pick up.

I've got 1000 points left in Paddy Power and there is a $350 freeroll starting in an couple of hours. I'm going to try to learn how to play on th epractice tables then enter.

Should hopefully be a really small field since no one normal plays this game, right?

Re: Omaha

It's almost exactly like Hold'em instead of having 2 hole cards, you have 4 but you can use only TWO of them to make the best hand possible. The three from five on the board principle remains the same.

It's a more subtle game than Hold'em and a bit hit-and-miss (someone can easily have you beat and you don't know it).

I've no idea about the size of the fields who enter but they shouldn't be particularly large, no.

Re: Omaha

Just been reading up a wee bit and playing a bit. The biggest thing is you HAVE to use two and ONLY two cards from your hole cards. Its quite strange, for instance if

i have AcAsKs9s and
the board is 3c4c6s9cQc

then I don't have an A high flush since I must use two hole cards to make the best hand and I only have one club.
I'll see what I can do.

Re: Omaha

Just looked over ALL the Omaha games going on on Paddy right now. There are only 54 players in total playing Omaha. Thats crazy. And it might be less if people are multi tabling.

Re: Omaha

Playing this thing now, turned out 169 started, thats a bit too many for my liking. I'll se what I can do. Apparently the key is connected and suited hole cards.
27 paid, maybe I can scrape in by winning a couple of hands. I'll get lucky too cause I'm Irish and cause I'm a beginner at this game.

8 minutes gone, 35 players gone. Not too bad.

Re: Omaha

The best hand in Omaha is AK double suited. It is a very random game imo cos so many possibilities occur and it just seems totally crapshooty lucky. Its not though just seems that way, its more action than Hold Em and its a game that a lot of high limit cash game pros enjoy.

Re: Omaha

The problem I am having is counting all my outs before the timer runs out. I'm currently ninth. Hit Kings full of queens and tripled up. 110 left.

I haven't seen any winning hand less than a straight. Found this post on a forum so following these guidelines:

My starting hand requirements are:

High pairs above JJ.
Any four connected cards above 6789.
Any suited Ace that also has a pair.
Any suited Ace that also has two higher connected cards (QJ, JT, T9).

Never play a hand with three of the same card (AAAx).
Don't play a three suited hand unless it meets one of the first two conditions above.

Re: Omaha

21 st outta 37 now.

Some really short stacks so should be ok to limp into the money. Thats all I need to do. Still trying to live my dream of nothing into loads.

And playing for time to the max, waiting for the timer to nearly run out every time.

And the blinds were just about to hit me and take quarter of my stack then I got transfered tables to the button

Theres no advantage to doing it on cash tables, except maybe to piss of the other players and put them on tilt.

Break time now. 21st out of 28. 27 paid.

I've actually only played 5 hands the whole tourney. All about the beginner's lucky I think. I wanna see how high I can come now. Nothing to lose really (as long as I wait till the bubble bursts before I do anything silly).

Re: Omaha

I'm out. Made my push with 8 9 10 J

Flopped a pair and a few straight draws but no outs came and the other guy won with AA in the hole.

Very successful first go at Omaha I think. Now I have myself $3.50. So going to go back to low stakes NL and try to make loads.

I'll continue my little adventure in the Zero to Millions thread.
