Re: Fixed Limit Holdem
"The crux of it all is you cannot punish bad players as heavily in limit poker. You can never stack someone for all their money that they have, nor can you put anyone to a really tough decision - in limit they only have to worry about 1 bet. This is pretty lame to be honest, it just means you get a bunch of pansys playing at the limit tables as they dont want to be put to tough decisions. A bad decision in limit is punishing for only a few bets either way. It takes a whole night of bad decisions to seriously decimate you. In no limit just 1 single wrong decision can cost you your WHOLE stack or see you bluffed out of a gigantic pot, a lot of players fear having to make these choices and as such stick to the limit tables. Personally I would advocate limit poker to anyone starting out and wanting to learn, then NL tourneys, then small stakes NL cash before moving up."
"To sum up, limit poker is just G A Y "Aye!!! Bloody poofs game, won't be doing that again, honest. ![]() |

Re: Fixed Limit Holdem
it is true that 1 bad decision can't cost you your whole stack, but equally one bad decision by your opponent, who then sucks out, can't cost you your whole stack either.
The reality is that they are different games that demand different approaches and skills. You can be a very effective and profitable NL player and still make lots of 'mistakes' if some other part of your game compensates. In limit you can't do that. That demands more in one sense, but it also means that your range of 'weapons' is more limited |

Re: Fixed Limit Holdem
not so nonecks - you just have to adjust. It is true that you can't make as much on your really big hands in a tourney, so you have to play more marginal hands - which takes real skill.
It is just a different game. You can't play speculative hands in limit - you have to either play for value or judiciously bluff. The implied odds are very different - you won't make a packet (because your bet size is limited), but you will get calls that you won't get in NL. |

Aye but Spacecat.....your playing Limit Holdem!
It's not cool to be cool with uncool people You better watch yourrself spacecat. Before you know it you could be 'them' and soon you'll be wondering 'whatever went wrong in my life'. I'd nip it in the bud mate. 3am Big Pot No Limit tournie on bet365. Usually only about 80 in. I'd play that like a rock and roller and make folks frighted of you. Use it as your bedtime arranger. by 5am you'll be pushing 60,000 chips into the middle as you know he aint got an ace. you know it makes sense ![]() |

. Anyway, someone asked if I'd tried limit so have been giving that a shot the past 2 days. Maybe beginners luck but I find it pretty easy to build the stack and without the stress/pressure of losing full buy-ins on one hand.
