Fans have named Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures as the most iconic album cover of all time.

The "pulses" design by artist Peter Saville topped a poll which included the Beatles and Pink Floyd.

The images were from the Cambridge Encyclopedia of Astronomy and showed 100 pulses from a pulsar, or a neutron star. Unknown Pleasures was their debut album in 1979 and had no track listings.

Weird as when i was a kid and a Joy Division fan no one else seemed to like them. they seem all the rage these days and that bloody stupid film Control hasnt helped. I would have thought the Smiths - the smiths was more iconic than Meat is Murder.

Can't argue with any of those except Paul Weller (I like the bloke but to put that up with the best covers is bollox) and the top one.

Where is the Stones one with the tongue on it.
