Re: How to lose in a live tournement

You don't know - you presume, which is only part of the continium from guess/estimate.

If they're not in the pot yet, then technically they're implied odds. I know where you're coming from, just trying not to confuse Gettin even more

Re: How to lose in a live tournement

I know it sounds pinickity but I beg to differ, if the dudes only got 500 or a 1000 left behind they ARE in the pot in essence as you KNOW theyre going in. Theres no question the only reason theyre not in already is cos its pot limit probly.

Re: How to lose in a live tournement

you can't know that. I've seen people fold in these situations. You might be 99.999% confident, but you never 'know'. He could have a heart attack at the table and die and then his money doesn't go in! I know I'm getting ridiculous here, but if the money is not actually in the pot, then it is implied odds, however high the likelihood that it will go all in.

Lets say the flop came AKQsuited and he is sitting there with pocket 9's? He might fold there - I've seen players do it.

Or what if he was actually making a squeeze play with two crap cards?

As I say, until he has actually put it in, it is implied odds. In this case for practical purposes though, there isn't much difference - it is more than reasonable to assume that all the chips WILL go in, so you do your calculations as if they were all in NOW.

His chips are going in (he is a good player so he knows he cannot pass regardless of the flop)

Re: How to lose in a live tournement

I'm right I tells ya!

it is implied odds till the money is in the middle.

Lets say he had 1000 chips left and there was 13K on the table with him holding 9c9s. The flop comes AhKhQh. He knows G to be a tight player. Does he have a 1/13 chance of winning this pot? Probably not. You'd call there maybe, I'd call there probably, but I wouldn't like it and I'm not sure it would be the right call. I have seen players fold there.

What if he was just making a move at the pot - I've done that with rubbish cards before from such a position. If you've been playing moderately tight and you know the other players in the hand respect you, you'll win enough of the time to make it a useful move.

anyhow - I'm sure we can agree that we believe the guys money is going in, so we're going to calculate on that basis. However, the fact remains that until he does actually put it in, we are technically talking implied odds.

No, you must calcualte your pot odds preflop including his extra chips which are no doubt going in on the flop (and the extra you will need to call). If you dont include this in your calculation then you are making a mistake.

No!

The pot odds can only account for money that is actually in the pot. 'No doubt' is not in the pot, that is implied odds. Implied odds are what you use for your decision though.

If you do not calculate his extra chips and what you have to call to match them into your calculation preflop then you will come up with the wrong answer, they are going in end of question.

Re: How to lose in a live tournement

Its a redundant question really id put him all in preflop anyway by raising back for the few extra he has which is what happened.

Quote:
He has only 400 chips on top of his 6,500 raise
Hes not passing for 400 more.

Re: How to lose in a live tournement

we are all agreed on the calculation.

Technically though if you are calculating based on money not yet in the pot (however certain you feel that it will be) then we are dealing with implied odds.

What was the standard of play like in general gett1n, I guess a mixture of good and bad?
I'll be honest and say that I wasn't that impressed. I know this sounds a bit arrogant seeing as I busted myself out but most people were just too fast and loose (typical rebuy though). The tight players bordered on being weak as opposed to aggressive. Maybe it was just my table as I was never asked to move seat? Overall I went out in about 25th I think. It had 76 or so starters.

I definately think the game was loose enough for me to have done so, so much better.
