Movie-The Orphanage

Top quality suspense horror film. Very spooky with real atmosphere without resorting to gross out horror scenes aka hostel.

It's pretty much a good old haunted house number but with a twist. On occasions it's terrifying and in others it's very moving and sad. I've heard a lot of acclaim for the "Most Haunted" section of the film but I thought this was the poorest section. Probably because I resent the use of nightvision cameras for anything other than celebrities having sex and ninjas/commandos on operations.

Nearly jumped out of my skin at some points and one scene in particular has officially replaced "the woods & hospital bed scene" from American Werewolf in London as the moment in cinema that made me shit myself the most.

The lead character in it is some Spanish chick and she does a brilliant acting job and is incredibly beautiful.

Get it watched

Saw this last night. Absolutely brilliant. Some minor plot holes but with some very bad things happening in orpanages not so far away the "cause" of the events pretty believable. Great ending as well.

The producer directed Pan's Labrinthy, vampire tale "Cronos" and the Spansih Civil War ghost story "The Devil's Backbone". The latter movie has lots in common with this.

Not seen this yet, but I've been waiting for a while. I love all the stuff I've seen so far from Guillermo Del Toro so for him to be producing this is a big plus for me.

Apparently there's an English language remake set in America in the pipeline. I'd rather watch the Spanish version, but I believe Del Toro is penned in to direct the remake, so it should be quite decent.

If, as you say Wittmann, that The Orpanage is similar to "El espinazo del Diablo" (The Devil's backbone), then I should really enjoy it. "Diablo" is one of my all-time favourite films. El laberinto del fauno ("Pan's") isn't far behind. Not seen "Cronos" yet, will have to hunt it out.
