Re: Wales v England Under 21's tonight ?
ENGLAND under-21 boss Peter Taylor hopes to add to his fond memories of the Racecourse Ground when his side take on Wales.
The Hull boss made his senior England debut at the Racecourse, scoring after coming off the bench, and another win nearly 30 years later would be welcomed. "I have good memories of Wrexham. I came on as a sub and scored in a 2-1 win, so a repeat would be really good," he said. England won their home matches against the Wales youngsters 2-0, but the visitors at Ewood Park did hit the woodwork in the first half and acquitted themselves well. And Taylor is not underestimating the potential of the Welsh, adding: "We are desperate to win. With Poland losing to Germany it puts Germany and us in a strong position to qualify for the finals in May. "But we will definitely not be underestimating Wales. They played very well against us at Blackburn and could easily have been 1-0 ahead at half time. "Bryan Flynn has done an excellent job as coach and we know they could be dangerous." The England squad includes Premiership players such as James Milner, Stewart Downing, Keiran Richardson and Carlton Cole and Taylor added: "I haven't decided who'll be captain yet. "I've got Gary O'Neil and Nigel Reo-Coker in the squad. "Nigel's been in cracking form of late and has been a fine captain for England, but so too was Gary O'Neil before." I cannot imagine any Welsh under 21 in the same class as the players mentioned above. read this report from bbc Wales Under-21 boss Brian Flynn will be without influential Wrexham midfielder Mark Jones against England Under-21s at the Racecourse Ground on Friday night. Jones has a stomach strain, which also rules him out of Tuesday's trip to face Poland at Nowy Dwor Mazowiecki. Also doubtful is Derby defender Lewin Nyatanga (Achilles) and Notts County defender Danny Martin (hamstring). Flynn will also be without Joe Ledley, after the attacking Cardiff midfielder was called into the senior squad. Wrexham midfielder Levi Mackin and new Liverpool signing Ramon Calliste have been called into the squad. However, Calliste, the striker released by Manchester United and now on a one-year contract at Anfield, is suspended for the England game. Wales Under-21 boss Flynn said: "Mark has not had much luck in the past couple of years and we have already ruled him out of the trip to Poland as well, it's unfortunate for the lad but it's one of those things. "What it mean is there is an opportunity for other players to show what they can do." Wales side will be without eight players who were involved in the 2-0 defeat to England at Blackburn last October, with Lewis Price, Richard Duffy and David Vaughan all now with the senior squad. Nyatanga, 17, qualifies for Wales though his Newport-born grandmother and became Wales' youngest Under-21 player at 16 years and 174 days when he came on against Germany in February. However, the Derby youngster - born in Burton - also qualifies for England and the Football Association of Wales is eager to hand Nyatanga a full cap in a competitive international - ensuring his international future lies west of the Severn Bridge. There was never any prospect of Nyatanga being involved with the seniors against England or Poland in the current double header of World Cup qualifiers, but he could feature against Northern Ireland or Azerbaijan next month. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wales under-21 squad to play England under-21s at Wrexham on 2 September and Poland under-21s at Nowy Dwor Mazowiecki on 6 September: Hennessey (Wolves), Worgan (unattached), Anthony (Cardiff), Beevers (Lincoln), Adam Davies (Cambridge), Gilbert (Leicester), Martin (Notts Co), Nyatanga (Derby), Crofts (Gillingham), Arron Davies (Yeovil), Tudur-Jones (Swansea), Mackin (Wrexham), McDonald (Cardiff), Pulis (Stoke), Birchall (Mansfield), Fleetwood (Cardiff), Cotterill (Bristol City), C Davies (Oxford), Pritchard (Swansea), Calliste (Liverpool). Tudur-Jones used to live in the next street to me in Porthmadog when he was 6 or 7 .I used to beat him in a one on one then , but I had a healthy size and age advantage over him then. I will be cheering him on tonight but cannot see it. Odds of 1.45 with betfair today is much better than 1.4 for the senior side It just been announced on sky that if they win tonight they will finish in the top two in the group with Germany who they play on Tuesday cheers go on Tudur Jones - FIRST GAME TONIGHT |
