Mmm, thought both sides struggled to pass the ball competently, Uruguay's shooting was terrible..the ref was surrounded by about 10 players whenever he blew his whistle..Costa Rica equalising so quick after they took the lead was difficult to take, was just about to lay some off too as Costa Rica were 9.0 to score next goal with skybet..yes im bitter basically! but also think if Uruguay come up against a decent team in the finals they will get battered, very disappointed in the way they played..

Georgia leading 1-0 in this qualifier then Ireland win a penalty when it clearly doesn't hit the guys hand and more shoulder/chest.

Did we hear anything about this? Did we fuck, even Keane and Traps were outr after the match saying they conveniently didn't see if it was a handball or not.

It'll blow over soon enough Kiko..look at the last few tournaments England have had..we've blamed Phil Neville, Gareth Southgate, David Seaman, David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo to name a few, for various tournament failures..in the end its what football is all about, opinions, emotion, anger, frustration for most of us its just an escape from our usual mundane lives..this will give people something to moan about for a few weeks then something else will come along, all part of the cycle..

Two words....."total bollocks". The ref' had an excellent game and if anything I'd say Ireland got the majority of the 50/50 decisions. If he was intent on getting France through he had a perfect opportunity to give a penalty for Anelka which nobody could have suspected of being biased - he didn't.

There are reports that the Irish FA want FIFA to have the game replayed.......

"The blatantly incorrect decision by the referee to award the goal has damaged the integrity of the sport and we now call on FIFA, as the world governing body for our sport, to organise for this match to be replayed," an FAI statement read.
And FAI chief executive John Delaney urged FIFA to uphold their own stated principles of fair play.
"I really believe the integrity of the game has been questioned," Delaney said.
"The governing body of world football have to step up to the plate and accede to our call for a replay."
Irish Justice minister Dermot Ahern had led initial calls for the World Cup play-off match to be replayed, and Ireland assistant manager Liam Brady backed the idea, saying the team would be happy to play.
"They probably won't grant it as we are minnows in world football but let's put them (FIFA) on the spot," said Ahern.

It won't be replayed. Every six year old kid who plays football knows that the game isn't fair and that cheats very often do win. That doesn't just go for football it goes for every other game and for life as well. The irony of it all is that we call Blatter and Plattini all the names we can think of but if they'd had their extra "assistant refs" behind each goal as they are trialling in the Europa league then this wouldn't have been given, whereas any amount of goal line technology wouldn't have prevented it.

It won't be because Ireland are "minnows" though. It happened to a bigger name in a bigger game in 1986 and that game was never replayed. In fact the reaction of most of the footballing world was to piss themselves laughing. This is different and almost everyone feels for the Irish. I honestly feel for them myself and a good chunk of the world would rather have them there than the French but is it worth changing the entire rules of the game to achieve that?

Fair point...I'd say that type of penalty is normally given 9 times out of 10..

ODM What is worse I heard Trappatoni questioning the referee being selected. Like you the referee was absolutely brilliant - even the goal he would have done well to see it without video footage.

The majority of the refs would have given the pen and given a lot more free kicks to the French when this guy rightly so let the play go on.

I agree, thought the ref was excellent..its beyound me why hes getting the stick when the linesman was the one who missed the offside and the handball, the ref had no chance from where the incident took place.

There is not a hope in hell that we can get things changed or that there will be a replay, its only to make a statement and to show that the French are cheating lying bastards, at the game in Dublin when the French went a goal up, Anelka went down as if he was shot and lay motionless on the ground, when no one had touched him, this halted an Irish counter attack, he then jumped up when play was stopped and ran around as normal. Actually the players do not blame the referee so much, many of them mentioned the linesman, he was blind as were the linesmen in Dublin. To be honest the whole thing stinks of shit, the French Football Federation unveiled their new world cup shirt the day after the Paris game!
These things happen in football for sure, if we had video replays would, Ronaldo have gotten away with it against England?, would England have won the World Cup in 66? England go on about Mardona's hand of God, which was disgraceful, but everone forgets Maradona's second goal in that game, when he showed the World why he was rated as the best player in the world!
What hurts the Irish most is that we showed too much caution and respect for the French in Dublin, we were in awe when the likes of Benzima was on the bench....the French were shit, but it was too late when we found this out....
