I think it's pinching money given that they are odds on favs for Saturday's game and another game that they could well win to put them through.

Worst case scenario, they finish fifth and get to play somebody shit in a play off.

Yes they've been shit to date but can anyone see them blowing it?

It would certainly be a shock given that even though they are in the cack, they are still 12/1 fifth favs to win the thing.

They might be 5th at the moment, but they've got Uruguay and Venezuela 1 pt behind and Colombia 2pts behind, and they have to go Uruguay in the last game.

Finishing 5th certainly isn't the worst case scenario in that case. Fair enough, it'd be an almighty fuck up to slip up at home to Peru, but the Uruguay game is very tricky, wouldn't be remotely interested in backing them to qualify at 1/5.

That same 36yr old described being called up for the FIRST TIME as a complete shock! He is picking people in the squad people have never heard of and his tactics render the likes of Messi useless.

Maradona out in the press yesterday saying there are too many influences from his FA etc so maybe all the bizarre call ups etc aren't entirely down to him.

Looking at the squad though and the talent in there is far too good not to qualify.

Diego Maradona could quit as Argentina coach next week, unless certain terms are met.

La Albiceleste are poised to play their final two 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ qualifiers against Peru and Uruguay, with their place at the global finals very much in the balance.

However, Maradona has revealed he is thinking of resigning from his post even if Argentina qualify, and will meet with Argentinian Football Association (AFA) president Julio Grondona to discuss matters.

"When Grondona called me to his house and offered me the job, I told him I was the happiest person in the world," said Maradona.

"But after that things happened that I didn't like, and I will speak about them later. If I continue it will be under my conditions. After the qualifiers I will talk to Julio."

Maradona, who has been in the post less than a year, did not specify what conditions he would lay down, but it is thought his chief gripe is with technical director Carlos Bilardo.

The pair reportedly do not get on and barely speak to each other, with Maradona unhappy at the former Argentina coach's interference in team affairs.

Argentina go into Saturday's qualifier in Buenos Aires on a run of four defeats in their last five games, and currently lie in the play-off position in the South American Zone.

That would worry me about lumping too much on.

Despite two defeats from their last two games they still looked excellent going forward (i watched all the Brazil game and parts of the Paraguay game), they were far from organised at the back v Brazil but were still as good as Brazil for most of the match.

The Paraguains were up big time for their game and i think a win for them guarenteed them qualification. You could sense the nerves in the Argies at times.

Mascherano being appointed as Captain was a strange one and he doesnt seem to be enjoying the role to me.

I'm not sure wether this news is good news or bad news tbh..

I think Argentina will qualify but there 's some negatives to be wary of, 1/5 is about the right price for me.

Sounds a bit too much like betting on someone based on reputation. They do sound shambolic just now (not just on the pitch) and I'm not sure it's worth the worry.

I wouldn't say shambolic Mick - as Kop says they have been very good going forward and been rather unfortunate in a lot of games. I like the combination of Tevez and Messi - they play very well together and their link up play with each other is as good as any pairing upfront around!

It's all about opinions but I'm happy with the price regardless of the negative comments in here. I think 5th place is absolutely nailed on (and with it, a two legged play off against Costa Rica or El Salvador which they will win). Given that Venezuela have to play the top two teams in the group, they are unlikely to trouble them and the other two contenders Uraguay and Ecuador have to play each other so points will be dropped there.

If results go the right way on Saturday, fith place could be already guaranteed and 1/5 against beating Costa Rica over two legs will look like a bargain. Not only have Peru not picked up a point away from their altitude assisted home ground, but they've only scored one goal in the seven games.

If Peru do get a result against Argentina on Saturday then I'll hold my hands up to the gods of gambling and accept my losses but you can do no better than be happier with your bet before the off and that's where I am at the moment
