Re: FIFA World Cup Qualifiers 19/11
20 Nov 01:00 USA v Guatemala 1.40 4.85 10.50
The USA have already qualified for the final hexaganol round, so once again USA coach Bob Bradley will give fringe and young players a chance to impress as they host a Guatemalan team still needing a win to have any chance of progressing.
Aston Villa's reserve 'keeper Brad Guzan, Monaco's Freddie Adu and Villareals Jozy Altidore are the only players still in mid-season. The rest of the players in the squad are playing this game at the end of a long season, most having played in the MLS, with two having played in Norway last season. Pablo Mastroeni and Brian Ching are the only two players who are present from the first meeting with Guatemala, a very physical encounter ending in a 1-0 USA victory.
Guatemalan coach Ramon Madariaga was fired after their 2-1 loss away to Cuba, a game on balance of play they probably should have got at least a point from. They're going into the game against the USA with a terrible record against the superpower, having never beaten them in a World Cup qualifier, never beaten them in the US and never beaten them since 1988. However, they do have a full strength squad at the disposal and are likely to make life very difficult for the young USA team.
There's no doubt the USA have a talented crop of young players, but the Guatemalans didn't give the first eleven an easy ride in their first meeting and could well make things very uncomfortable for a US team made up of many younger players.
