Looks like there are a few with low expectations of Scotland.

One nation that significantly contributed to McClaren's downfall was Macedonia, and we're surprised to see them as big as 11/5 with VC Bet to beat Scotland in their Group Nine encounter in Skopje.

Before we examine George Burley's injury-depleted squad, let's just cast our minds back to the damage Macedonia caused England in the last qualifying campaign.

Sure, the Three Lions just about managed to claim a very hard-earned 1-0 away triumph but back on home soil at Old Trafford they dropped two crucial points in a 0-0 draw, which would eventually prove fatal.

Macedonia even inflicted Croatia's only defeat during the qualifying stage, claiming a 2-0 victory in awful conditions in Skopje, proving just how dangerous they can be.

In fact Scotland boss Burley has even gone against the bookies by declaring his opponents favourites to win on Saturday and quite frankly we agree.

He said: "I think Macedonia are favourites. We've got to go there and give it our best shot.

"We've got players who have played in the Champions League. We won't go in with any fear. We're novices as far as finals are concerned but sometimes that's a good thing."

Those are the words of a man who doesn't sound too confident and it'sunderstandable when you see how many important players are unavailable for such a tricky tie.

Barry Ferguson and Alan Hutton are out with long-term problems but Burley has also lost Garry O'Connor, David Weir, David Marshall, Callum Davidson, Kevin McNaughton and Kevin Thomson.

In fact Burley must be growing used to these crippling call-offs having experienced similar bad luck for his opening three friendly games and it's fair to say his reign hasn't got going at all.

Following a 1-1 draw with Croatia and a sound 3-1 away defeat against the Czech Republic, the Scots were held 0-0 by Northern Ireland in the recent clash at Hampden so Burley is still searching for his first win as the pressure begins to build.

Essentially he's not really had an opportunity to work with his ideal team and so much chopping, changing and withdrawals has left his preparations severely disrupted.

The searing heat in the Macedonian capital will also play a part at this time of year and the Scots can expect temperatures of 33 degrees Celsius there by the weekend.

This will undoubtedly come as a massive climate shock for players used to a miserable British summer so with all this in mind it makes perfect sense to bank on the hosts to bask in the sun and clinch all three points.

Thats one of the best lays I have seen for some time i have to admit and how Scotland justify those odds is beyond me. I would have had them around 7/4 minimum myself.

Scotland have never travelled well. Infact its the 'smaller' nations they seem to struggle most against and put in poor performances and with Scotland's troubles here I can't really trust them.

Macedonia seem to be a decent outfit and one of these developing nations who are getting more and more dangerous every year.

Kenya Vs Namibia
Kenya simply do not loose in Nairobi. Kenya will win with at least a 2 goal difference so a handicap can also be staked. This is a BANKER so all must stake.

Burkina Faso vs Tunisia
This is one match i am waiting to see the odds. Burkina faso, i cant remeber the last time they lost or drew on home soil. They have already beaten the Tunisians in the first round and i see them repeating the feat. I will go for a home win.

Congo DR Vs Egypt
Kinshasa is one hell of a place to visit and Congo DR are very strong. They play the African champions Egypt. Though i am tempted to stake for home win, i will play safe and stake Congo DR not to loose. For me 1x is a safe and sure bet as i dont see Egypt winning and their best will be a draw. So 1x for me.

Here are other matches i also think will be interesting but i will only put small stakes on.

South Africa Vs Nigeria
Nigeria always have the upper hand over South Africa irrespective of the place of the match. Nigeria will have key absentees as Mikel Obi, Yobo and Kanu are out due to injury. I would have gone for a straight away victory but due to the injury situation i will stake Nigeria not to loose so x2 for me is a safe bet.

Niger Vs Uganda
Niger are a poor side, though uganda have lost their coach to Hearts in Scotland, i still think they have too much for Niger. Away win for me

Lesotho Vs Gabon
Lesotho are also a poor side and i see Gabon beating them in Maseru. Away win for me

Gambia Vs Liberia
Gambia should win this one. Home win

Benin Vs Angola
Pretty tough match, but i see Benin winning, well let me play safe and go for 1x

Mauritania Vs Rwanda
Rwanda wont loose this game x2 is a safe bet.

Scotland odds are up at 3.00 now which looks far more sensible - the main priority will be not conceding and anything we can nick on the break will be a bonus.

I would say tho that the importance of the Scotland call offs look to be a bit exaggerated. Ferguson and Hutton are huge blows of course, but they are longer term and we knew they were going to be missing a long time ago. The rest were unlikely to be getting a start - Thomson or Morrisson perhaps but most likely only a sub appearance, and Weir only if Burley felt compelled to pick him. There's an argument to say that bar the long term injuries, we've got a first choice team out.

Thats getting close to a backable price now for sure.

Ferguson missing is a bonus IMO. Has been a poor player ever since returning to Rangers.

Is picked for both club and country purely due to who he is now and not performance based.

no, no, no, no, no, no, and no again!!! Hungover came after the game do not believe that they were drinking in half time
we needed a point then, and we had one until half time when we find out that we're qualified for euro, (Israel and Russia finished then) than boys decided to keep their precious legs healthy for Wembley, four days later, and Macedonians also played for their biggest popstar that died in car accident few weeks earlier, they wanted to win more then we did and they got it. Pitch was worst one that I have ever seen, Michael Phelps would be happy with that one, probably be jumping in it thinging it is dirty swimming pool

on the other hand, Macedonians gave us lots of problems in the first game in Zagreb, when they took lead with great free kick, and then went defending, we went atacking like crazy after that, Srna scored equilizer at the beggining of the second half, and at the very end we score winning one. All in all, I woudn't go for Scotland win with confidence, even thoug I like Scotland, felt sorry for them when they lost against Italy, they deserved to go to EURO, but Italians, as allways are very lucky

I'm on Scotland at 7/4. 11/10 was ridiculous but 7/4 is more like it. I know the heat wont help but the call offs aren't really that bad imo and we could nick this one
