Re: Saturday 9th July
guys,
great to see the site working once again i for one have missed it recently. plenty of racing today thanks to those racing for change people transfering the newmarket july cup to a saturday. personally i don't know whether its a good thing but nevertheless it certainly is a good looking quality saturday's racing. selections for me today are as follows: york205 HAMISH McGONAGALL a model of consistency and goes well at the course, also seems quite versatile with regards to the going so for me this tim easterby star looks the most solid option in a fascinating listed sprint. ascot230 MACS POWER ran a cracker on seasonal debut when 2nd before finishing down the field lto with being disgraced. its main aim is reportably the stewards cup at goodwood later on this month but id still expect a bold showing here today with conditions to suit. york315 PEKAN STAR backed this one midweek at 6's and im happy with that. don't really know if its anything of a value bet at 3's now but for me its a very solid favourite and will take plenty of beating. quite simply it could well prove to be miles ahead of the handicapper today. york355 ORDNANCE ROW a speculative selection in a wide open looking race. this horse had group 3 and listed class winning form 2 years ago but showed nothing last season and on seasonal debut for new stable. subsequently it has fallen quite a bit in the ratings and despite running here off top weight can be given a chance if returning to anywhere near previous form. that may well be a bit IF in most peoples eyes but at the massive odds available im happy to chance my arm with a modest each way wager. york535 DIMAN WATERS in another minefield of a handicap i'll chance this one at around 16's given the fact that it has run well on previous outings here (was a disqualified winner last year). tired over 7 furlongs lto and drops down in trip today also could be potentially well drawn given the sofening ground conditions in stall 20. in the july cup at newmarket im tempted to have an interest in BATED BREATH having been with this one all season but im very concerned as to wether the sofening ground will be suitable and will watch a few of the opening races before deciding. if it looks to be riding well on the soft side id probably be siding with the hannon runner Monsieur Chevalier. |

Re: Saturday 9th July
Purely from a punting point of view, there is maybe too much going on today. I agree with you on MAC'S POWER tyke, but am worried that he is just a tad too short. Plenty of big field experience though and no great surprise to me if he wins. My main bets are all for tonight, so just messing about this afternoon with big priced each wayers and forecasts / tricasts :-
2:10 Tipperary - CEOC NA MARA - Stable does get the odd 2yo winner and they are in decent form ( win and a 2nd from their last 4 runners ). Essentially taking a chance on breeding as I feel Strategic Prince's will come into their own in the 2nd half of the season. Very risky of course, but don't mind a small punt at 50's. 2:55 Newmarket - Tough handicap's are the order of the day and this is no exception. I have backed 3 of these before and happy to go with them again in forecast / tricast bets - SHAMANDAR ( Useful last year and drops in class after aiming too high in a Group 2 ) EXCELLENT GUEST ( Copped a good draw LTO at Ascot and ran well in 2nd. Same trip today and has a chance ) KING OF JAZZ ( Not beaten far LTO and the form is strong. Still unexposed and should go well ) |

Re: Saturday 9th July
3:15 York - Another big field handicap and going with the following :-
CRYSTAL GAL ( Generally runs her race and solid enough in listed / group company ) SARRSAR ( Ease in the ground should help as should the step up in trip ) SMARTY SOCKS ( Overall record of 10 from 46 and obviously very capable on his day ) |

Re: Saturday 9th July
3:35 Newmarket - HITCHENS - Very useful performer, but always been a doubt if he is truly up to this level. No problem with conditions however and Sylevester De Sousa is riding well at the moment.

Re: Saturday 9th July
4:25 York - DARK AMBITION and REGAL ACCLAIM - Both are massive prices, but both hail from yards who do well with their juveniles. Big improvements needed from the pair of them, but happy to play at the prices.

Re: Saturday 9th July
4:45 Newmarket - ANGEL CAKE and LADY JAMEELA - Preference of course for the latter. AC has a lot to find, but does have Hayley Turner on board.

Re: Saturday 9th July
5:10 Chester - LAYLA JAMIL and CRUCIS ABBEY - LJ has the better form chance, but is drawn 12. CA is capable of smart form and looks a danger off a low weight, nicely berthed in 2 as well.

Re: Saturday 9th July
Bits and bobs so far, but at least took the top price about HITCHENS ( 50'S INTO 28'S ) and was rewarded with a decent 3rd. My main selections for tonight are as follows :-
5:30 Ascot - MISTER MANANNAN - Generally keeps good company, but has now dropped to a mark, which allows him to compete in handicaps. I have always thought him better at 5f and the ground looks ideal. Too big IMO at 16's and could easily go close. 7:00 Hamilton - THE FIERY CROSS - Shocking race and this one has at least hinted at ability. Not much to go on, but I think he might be best over this trip. 7:50 Salisbury - PUTTINGONTHESTYLE - Has been expensive to follow, but his overall balance of form is pretty decent. Has been tried over further, but this looks his trip. First time blinkers should help and could be a danger getting weight from a couple of useful LTO winners. 8:55 Salisbury - BYRONY - Juvenile form was pretty decent and not done too much wrong at 3. No problem with conditions and the jockey's 5lb claim, brings him right into the mix. |
