Speculative at best
My bankroll has taken a bit of a knock in the past two weeks (nothing too serious) so I've looked around for a nice big price to boost me up a bit. In the 7:40 in Stratford there is a chance (and it is only a small chance) that the favourite William Butler could get turned over by Pilgrims Lane. Pilgrims lane posted a time of 5 minutes flat (ish) over 22 furlongs (15 fences) at Stratford carrying a weight of 12-6 (only a novices chase but you can't argue with the time) and William Butler recently posted a time of 5m 12s over 22 furlongs (14 fences) carrying 11-8 (3lb claimer on board so really 11-5) also a Class 4. Both courses have similar charactersitics and both races were run on good to firm ground. Today William Butler runs off 11-9 (claimer and penalty accounted for) and Pilgrims Lane also runs off 11-9 (claimer accounted for); Pilgrims Lane has won in this class, at this course and at this distance so all factors considered should be in with a shout of at least a place BUT Pilgrims Lane has a dismal run last time out at Newton Abbot and finished lame (could be anything from a stone in the hoof/shoe to a serious injury) but surely they wouldn't run the horse again if was that serious. Has anyone else got a fancy for this race?
