Ooh I thought Mckelvey might have made it near the end there. Point Barrow gave me a good run for the money

Re: Grand National preview
Old McKelvey just ran out of ground...news is he's done himself a mischeif too and is off in the horsey ambulance.
Enjoyed that - not the most exciting of nationals, but all the build up and hubbub surrounding it is the best part.
Roll on the Scottish National next week

Re: Grand National preview
I thought McKELVEY was definitely going to get up but he seemed to hang a bit to his right on the run-in, and then he didn't quite go through with his effort near the line....if he hurt himself in the race (rather than after it) then I think we can definitely say it cost him the race.

So if McKELVEY finishes 2nd, 3rd or 4th, you will get £11.25 back (place odds are 7/2....a quarter of 14/1)
£2.50 on Mckelvey @ 14 - 1
|
McKELVEY finished 2nd

Word is (on RacingUK) that it was the tendon injury that caused him to veer, meaning that he carried it for most of the run in, and would probably have won otherwise. Of course a race like the national always has loads of ifs and buts(Ballycassidy, Bewley's Berry, Simon all going very well when falling) but an injury is a bit more unlucky than making a mistake.

Re: Grand National preview
Just out of interest, anyone looking at horses for the Scottish National next week? Seen, do you take as much interest in that one as you do for the Grand National?
Might be heading down to Ayr next Saturday for the meeting, could do with some good info.

Re: Grand National preview
I'll have a look, Dave, but from memory its nowhere near as 'stat friendly' as the real National....I think it very much favours the younger chaser, novices do well I think.
