I was half listening to a piece a couple of weeks back. Of course it would have helped if I could remember whether the track they were on about was Lingfield or Kempton

, but, whichever it was, the guy was making the point that the track was markedly slower on the rail in the home straight than other parts of the track.
Now of course, depending on the distance of the race, any horse can find themselves on the rail on the run in and normally that would be an advantage. The guy wasn't saying that the lower draw horses should be ignored. I think what he was saying was.....
1. Horses that like to front run (and therefore, logic would suggest, will often end up on the rail) will be succeptable to challenges from behind from horses going wider.
2. If you spot a horse that doesn't necessarily win but puts up a good performance when on the rail at that track, the chances are that it's actually better than first glance suggests, having done well to battle against the bias of the ground near the rail.
