Re: Flopping a Small Flush
First, I wouldn't make a habit of playing 96 (suited or otherwise) UTG. The chances are you're going to get raised, and end up folding or playing the rest of hand our of position.
However, once you've played it like that, and hit the flop. Given that it's a big multiway pot I think it's fair to assume someone's got a decent bit of the board and therefore I like the pot sized bet. Should get rid of anyone chasing a higher flush too. The guy that's called with QJ on the flop is a muppet (the fact that he raised pf is also laughable). Check on the turn is also fine - don't want to be scaring him off if he's got AJ for example. I'd probably check-call, and look to get the rest in on river, but as luck would have it he still thinks he's ahead despite your all in raise. |

Re: Flopping a Small Flush
i never even saw i was UTG Dave I work away in the early part of a stt and just click Fold. I did think when the screen comes up 'i want to see a flop with this' I think it was because i had a dream about playing 5-a-side football with Doyle Brunson in my team and i was thinking about his 'hands for double gut shots'. I just fancined a wee change to my usual Dave. I wouldnt even play AJ unsuited or pairs 2-7 utg usally (excuses excuses)Quote:
![]() Ah the check call Dave. thats it. Ive never done one of them before EVER. I see where it comes into play now. Hold on wouldnt me giving a river card be possibly totally devastating for me Dave? If a diamond hit i think i would fall to my knees on the floor ![]() |

Re: Flopping a Small Flush
Playing this straight up and just betting big on the flop and moving in on the turn is the best way to play it imo.
Against a PFR who also sticks about for a big bet on the flop id expect a call a fair bit of the time by moving in there. Youd be pushing 1150 into 1290 I believe so its not an overbet or anything dumb. Hes called 430 on the flop leaving himself with a crappy 870, I really fancy him to call, he'll be getting very good odds of about 2.5/1. Also the fact that he simply called the flop would lead me to think he may have the Ad in his hand and is trying to draw to the flush. By checking you give that hand a chance to suck out on you in a big pot (the pot is slightly bigger than your remaining stack at this point so is huge really). This would be a disaster. Dont forget either that if you go all in and he folds it aint a big deal, you still won a good pot and made people pay to suck out. The most important thing to do when the pot is big is just to win it. Trying to get a bit tricky in a hand where the pot is bigger than your stack just isnt worth messing about with really.
