Value Betting Thin, Comments??

OK poll time

Villain is Loose and aggro post-flop. I haven't seen him c/r yet over about 30 hands. Who value bets the river?? Does anyone think if we bet here, we are turning our hand into a bluff?

BB ($76.25)
UTG ($46.05)
UTG+1 ($50)
MP ($98.11)
CO-1 ($12.46)
CO ($42.40)

Preflop: Hero is on the Button with J J
UTG calls 0.50, 1 fold, MP calls 0.50, 2 folds, Hero raises to 3, 2 folds, UTG calls 2.50, 1 fold.

I like the way you played this hand scottie. I also have been trying hard to get better at value bets in these spots. I would probably bet just under 1/2 pot for value, I dont think your bluffing here.

Re: Value Betting Thin, Comments??

I'd have put him on something like A6s Scottie and put in a value bet. I have to admit these threads sure make me see how little i know but it's good to be able to talk poker and hands with folks.

Re: Value Betting Thin, Comments??

I'd be betting maybe 3/4 of the pot here Scott. Why did you check the flop out of interest? Think I'd have had a close to pot bet in at that stage.

Re: Value Betting Thin, Comments??

Ok, I won't hang around here as it's not the most interesting spot:

Agreeing with Jez, these spots I have been looking for thinner value. I'm never bluffing here FWIW. He would lead the river with anything that beats JJ on the river.

River (13.25) 8
UTG checks, Hero bets 7, UTG calls 7

UTG shows 6 J
Hero shows J J

Hero wins 27.25 with One pair, Jacks

Ed, I didn't bet the flop as I check a good amount of my range here for balance (JJ-99, AK, Qx a fair bit, sometimes AA/KK if oppo is tight)

Don't like that play personally, not beyond the realms that he called your pre-flop raise with a small/mid pair (i know he didn't in this case) and you've just allowed his set out, and completely free. Risky tactic in my humble opinion.

Have to say I agree with Ed, definitely would be betting the flop.

As you've played I'd probably bet 1/2 pot, but I would have looked to get chips in the pot on flop/turn rather than feeling like I had to eek out a bit more on the river.

The check on the flop is fine for me, a bet is also fine, yeah definitely a value bet on the river, you can be quite confident you have him beat at this stage.

Re: Value Betting Thin, Comments??

Nice one Scott. For very similar reasons to my views on the last hand I don't like the turn check, could be letting his K/A high flush out for free.

Re: Value Betting Thin, Comments??

Imo, I'd take that if they hit the flush backdoor, I still think there's a chance they might have c/c a Q on the flop so just wanted to make sure I was ahead. He was pretty donkish
