Re: A bad play - and the thinking behind it

Ok, I sat down with $25, and have slowly worked it up after an initial hit.

Bondieu hasn't been at the table long, and I know little about him.

jaydubl is very aggressive. If he's in the blinds and no-one raises to him he will always raise. He also likes this kind of play where there is one caller to a raise, he will re-raise in position and try to take the pot right there.

J10 suited is a hand I like to play, the call was a standard play. If jaydubl had been the initial raiser it's a hand I might re-raise with, but against a player I know nothing about a smooth call will do.

When jaydubl re-raises to $8 I'm not worried about his hand at all - it's the kind of play he makes with nothing all the time.

Bondieu's flat call is what convinces me to move in - almost all players in this situation will re-raise big because

a) they don't want to be up against 2 opponents
b) they think they're going to get paid

So I move all in, fully expecting 2 folders, unfortunately Bondieu slow(ish) played his KK and the hand holds up.

Re: A bad play - and the thinking behind it

im jst reading as i go dave and havent read on...J10 with a raise either side of me would have got me worried and i know i wopuld be having to look for a bit of luck on the flop and really only hearts would save me. I dont want to go against 2 healthy sounding hands with J10 unless im flushing or hitting the top end of a straight....fcuk dave your raising? this is great. It will have a great ending whatever. Madness surely your honour? ....

i still wont read on dave. im interested in the 'and the thinkig behind it bit' now as i know it should be interesting although i cant work it out yet. errrrr...if you hit you hit big? nah thats not a reasonable strategy. When you take away chance the rest is down to skill. chance will never work in the long run so as a strategy it's best forgotten but then i know hat you already know this dave. I better read on as im getting all perplexed here....im still a bit perplexed after reading that dave. im just a $5 player. To me these dudes were gonna call you no matter what and i could have found a better place to 4x raise the pot. I would have played it and hoped to hit something. If not then i would take the old TJ Cloutier quote of 'if i dont flop it im done with it' motif

Re: A bad play - and the thinking behind it

I've been looking at this for a day of so now and decided I'd give an opinion. Initial call fine if you were full stacked, not a great fan as you're only 75bb deep. I like your read on the squeezer but the reason I don't do this here is Bondieu's cold call of the 3bet. He has JT crushed and I suspect an awful lot of the time at 0.25/0.50 a guy like this isn't folding whatever they have.

The move is good Dave but I wouldn't try this any lower than 1/2.

Re: A bad play - and the thinking behind it

quite a reasonable play, but yeah the flatcall does set off alarmbells.

i did this the otehr day with 78s, shoved it (oop stop and go) postflop and he has aa. i looked like a donk but obv i made it all back x10 cos my table image was horrid (i tightened up my range after the offending hand)
