BATTLE OF THE BLINDS 5/10 NL

This was a really interesting hand I played this morning.

I dunno whether or not to post the hand step by step or just put it all up to the river action. Meh ill put it all in bar what I finally did on the river.

Ok well my opponent in this hand is a LAG player. Hes a bit of a strange one. he does frequently raise preflop and seems to play pretty well amassing big stacks. However I have also seen him do completely stupid things like open raises to 20bb and weird pushes. Ive seen him both play hands tremendously well and also fcuk up completely 5mins later I guess hes a bit jekyll and hyde. Creates action in the game tho.

Ok onto the actual action. He is in the BB and I am in the SB. Its folded to me and I have A4diamonds. I chose to just limp rather than raise. This was because my opponent here is liable to call me with any two if I raise preflop and then I am going to be in a tricky spot out of position with deep stacks against an aggressive player. If he was tight/passive I would raise all day but I dont want to give him an edge over me so I just limp. It also disguises my hand a bit should I hit an ace. He was winning when I joined the table 3 hands ago but he just 1000 on the last hand and has had a stack of 2500 dollars depleted to 1500. I have just started playing and have 1000 approx.

Preflop I limp and he checks....

Flop
Kd4s7h

I bet 20 dollars. He flat calls.

Turn
Kd 4s 7h 9d

Awesome turn. Backdoor nut draw. He will never put me on that if it hits. Almost every line here has a compelling argument. Bet out. Check/Raise or Check/Call. It is personal preference/opponent dependant. I was a bit wary of his flop call and unsure of his hand and being against an aggro player I did NOT want to get raised massive on this now sweet draw so I checked. He bet the pot (60 dollars) . I flat called.

River
Kd 4s 7h 9d Ac

Well I hit my two pair. I am not going to go too into my thought process here as it will spoil the results. What would you do here? Check/Call? Bet/Call a raise? Bet/Fold to a raise? Check/Raise? What do you put him on to do these things?

I checked, he bet 80. I raised to 240 and he thought for a second before going all in for about 600 more.

Call or Fold and what do you put him on and why to do either option in my spot?

Jez

Re: BATTLE OF THE BLINDS 5/10 NL

tough one Jez. I'll have a go.

He doesn't put you on ace I think, given your call. His likely read of you is that paired the flop and picked up a draw on the turn.
He calls a pot size bet on the flop. That doesn't mean much here, but he probably has at least a pair, given the dry board. You check the turn and he probably thinks his 7 or 4 is good. He may have a weak king also, but less likely IMO. I don't think he has trips - he would probably have raised pre-flop, and two pair raises the flop I think.
The river doesn't complete any draws. His bet looks to me like he wants a call. Hard to put him on an ace, unless he is being tricky with AK

However, your bet, call and check-raise says big hand. If he is capable of some decent play he has to realise this. He is basically betting 600 to win 500 if he thinks you might be bluffing. He could just call the 160 raise to bluff catch with a moderate hand.

I think he has a big hand here - at least 2 pair (probably equal or better than yours) and I don't rule out KK.

I fold.

Forgive me my 5 cents

It looks like you both have a little bit of the flop, you bet - he flat calls, on the turn he bets the pot - you flat call. The real action begins when an ace shows on the board - did you both had A4 ?

Re: BATTLE OF THE BLINDS 5/10 NL

I fold this quick at levels below 2/4, however I call here. This is why:

You can't get much information from pre-flop or on the flop against a good opponent at this level. The key to this hand is it looks like YOU are the one with a hand like 56 and trying a 'levelling' c/r on the river with the busted draw. You're line is weird and if he had a hand, he would probably just snap it off. Therefore, HE COULD be the one with the missed draw trying the re-bluff.

I mentioned that I would fold this at my level. Almost no-one is capable of pulling this off (except a few) and even more importantly, there aren't enough players who are good enough to realise what you're doing.
