CINK..@140 open winner and decent record round here and definately a man for the big occasion.
COUPLES..@220 one of the best records ever at this course and right there until disaster at the 12th on the sunday last year.
IMMELMAN..@110 former winner and played well since..hopefully now injury free.
O'HAIR..@250 very good player if he can hold his temperament together and has twice got in contention here before blowing it.
KELLY..@490 massive price for someone who has played so well here in the past..bit of a nutter by all accounts.

POULTER..@60 would have been in the above catergory if he'd shown a bit more recent form and think he should be 10 or so points bigger for the same reason..dosent lack for self belief
Z.JOHNSON..@160 former winner..str8 short hitter will plot his way round.
MOORE..@75 up and coming player who played very well last year.
GLOVER..@410 former major winner who went thru a purple patch around that time..been struggling since and more attracted by the price than his current form tbh.

always like to pick one or two maahoosive prices out and hope they will start well and give a chance of a trade back at lower prices..easier said than done here though as most of the huge priced players are former winners that get a lifetime exemption but here goes..
HAVRET..@640 scottish open winner and runner up in last years us open...no course form but no mug.
T.WATSON..@990 keeps proving the abilities there to put 2 decent rounds together if nothing else..a nice 67 first round like last year would be ideal.
O'MEARA..@1000 shot in the dark who's been playing well on the seniors tour..same scenario as watson..
quite a few bets but all open to trade with the larger the stake on the main fancies and so on down the line.

US Masters - my thoughts

The Longshots

Vijah Singh

Great 2011 on the tour, with 2nd and 3rd placings. Consistent masters record including a winning it in 2000 and 6 top 10 finishes. Prior to last year he made the cut in his previous 11 masters and finished in the top 20 in 9 of those. Also has two PGA championships to his name. Has been off the boil somewhat in recent years but looks back in the game.

130’s on Betfair defo worth a few quid

Mark Wilson

Turned pro way back in 1996 (aged 21), first trip to the Masters and only played in 3 majors missing the cut on each occasion. Some golfers take time to mature and Mark seems to be one of them, recorded his first tour win back in 2007, winning a 4 way play off in the Honda classic, added to that with another win in 2009 and doubled his tally this year with 2 wins another in a play off which suggests he has the mental strength to win the masters. 2011 is his best season by far only missing 1 cut in the 9 tournaments played so far and amassing over $2.4m in prize money already double anything he has earned in the past.

270’s on Betfair looks very generous

Tim Clark

His masters record reads 2006 – 2nd, 2007 – 13th, 2008 – MC, 2009 – 13th, 2010 – MC. He won the players championship last year and has 3 european tours to his name. he’s only played in 2 events this year on the US tour and finishing 2nd and 17th. Is someone with a decent masters record, proven winner at a decent level and is in great form, stands a great chance.

250’s on betfair looks too big

Fred Couples

Has 11 top 10 finishes in the masters which include a win back in 1992, recently he recorded a 3rd 2006 and 6th 2010. He had a great year last year plying his trade on the Champions tour recording 4 tour wins. In the 3 full tour events he’s played in this year he has made the cut in all 3 and finished in the top 10 in one of them. The main negative he hasn’t won anything on the full tour since 2003 but did win the open in 2005.

Could well be in the mix so should trade a lot shorter than 210’s on betfair

Angel Cabrera

An out of form golfer in 2011 so far but one who has a good Masters record. He won the event in 2009 and has made the cut in the last 5 years. This year hasn’t been great on the tour only making 3 out of the last 6 cuts but he his best result came in his last tour tournament where he finished 7th so he could be hitting form at the right time. As well as the Masters he’s won the US open, 2 PGA tours and 5 European tour events. He won the Masters in a play off so he has proved he can handle the pressure.

A very suprising 140’s on betfair

Jhonattan Vegas

The rookie chance goes to this venezualan golfer. Who has sprung onto the PGA tour scene in a big way. Can he do what Luke Donald did on his debut? I don’t see why not,. He won 1 Nationwide tour event last year and finished 7th on the money list qualifying for the PGA tour this year. So far he has played 10 made the cut in 7 of those, won his last one in a 3 way play off and was 3rd in the one before that. There’s no pressure on this guy he’s already made plenty of money this year, he’s in great form, showed he can withstand the pressure to win a tournament. He could well surpise a few and his currently a very generous price

A massive 350’s on Betfair

Zach Johnson

Not sure if I should be including Zach as he’s not set the world alight this year, he’s made all 7 cuts but hasn’t finished in the top 10 in any of the events. He won the Masters in 2007 and has always started well but one bad round has put pay to his chances. He’s probably a trading opportunity at the very least

Mike Weir

Another previous winner who is a huge price on Betfair but the reason behind that he is woefully out of form. However, he has been for a few years now. 2003 was his best season where he won the masters and was 3rd in the US open. Since then he has just had 2 tour wins in 2005 and 2007. However, he has made the cut in 10 out of the 11 times he has been to Augusta. His first couple of rounds are usually good and he’s in the mix but the past couple of years he has fallen away after making the cut. At his current odds you could get a free bet at around 300/1 if you trade out at half his current price.

The Top End of The Market

Dustin Johnson

Nothing outstanding from him for his two visits to Augusta but he has made the cut on both occasions. He is yet to card a sub 70 round which is what is needed to be in the mix come Sunday. He will however have come on for this and he’s an excellent young golfer (26) on the PGA tour. Yet to card a win this year but has had a 2nd and a 3rd in the 8 events and made 6 cuts.

At the price he’s perhaps worth watching for the opening round and make a play after that (cue a sub 70 opening round!).

Luke Donald

Hit the cross bar a few times on the tour last year but has carded 1 win already this year. Has a good record at Augusta coming 3rd on his debut in 2005 but more recently struggling somewhat and missing the cut last year. What’s interesting about Luke is that he seems to have focused his early season on the Masters. He picked up the tour win at the World Matchplay championship and hasn’t played since because Augusta was on the horizon. In 2005 he proved he can play the course and since then he has been focused on making money on the tour. Now he is focused on winning trophies and he has the game to win majors. He’s been in the mix at the Open, US Open, the Masters and the PGA and I expect him to do very well this year. The downside is his price but he’s English and a small investment to add interest in someone that is worthwhile cheering along

Tiger Woods

Rule out tiger at your peril. Winning the masters is all about playing well at Augusta and mental strength. How can anyone say Tiger Woods won’t win the Masters when he has never missed the cut and has finished in the top 10 in his last 6 visits to Augusta. He only had 2 top 10 finishes on the tour last year and yet he finished 4th in the Masters. It could be argued he is in better form leading up this year than last year and his latest tour event was his best finishing position. He is probably in a better frame of mind, as well as hungry for success with a point to prove.

I’ve never been a woods backer pre-tournament in the Masters before because his price is always too short but I am sorely tempted this year. I expect him to be in the mix and trade very short at some point.

Phil Mickleson

The form book says the run away winner this year should be Phil. 13 times in the top 10 at Augusta including 3 wins all in the last 5 years. He’s made all 8 cuts on the PGA tour this year and already has 1 win and 1 2nd place under his belt. The win came in his last tournament. He’ll be in the mix for sure but I reckon someone will pip him to the post.
