Will this cut it?
Right, wondering what people's thoughts are on the following:
A week or so ago I was looking at the odds on the golf (Farmers Insurance Open - US PGA Tour). I noticed that the odds for a player to make the cut appear quite generous, for example Rickie Fowler - good prospect (ranked 30th in the world), course form (5th last year) etc was 1/5 to make the cut. Ok, you won't make any money quick but a 20% return seemed reasonable for someone to make the top 60 odd. I was therefore wondering as a side bet to my usual stuff to do almost a rags to riches bet. Betting on one player (or two if i decide on a European tour) to make the cut, and then rolling that over until the FED EX end of year tournament/ Road to Dubai for European tour. In order of likely outcomes of how this thread will go: 1) a player misses the cut (whether through a bad day, wrong side of the draw in terms of weather) so bet fails. 2) I pull it under pressure when the amount being reinvested gets too big. 3) I successfully back a player every week at odds of around 1/5 and end up with a small fortune. Worth a see anyway. So as mentioned first bet already successful - £6.37 on Rickie Fowler to make the cut at 1/5, returned £7.64 In terms of placing bets, it doesn't look like the bookies give odds for the full field, so out of the ones available I'll ignore the very short odds i.e.1/10 etc, and then with remaining players review current form, historical course form etc to pick a bet. Second bet - £7.64 on Anthony Kim to make the cut at Waste Management open at 2/9. Reasoning - Seems to have fully recovered from injury, looked in good form last week, and whilst not the greatest past course record it does look to be improving. |

you are putting on £7.64 on odds of 2/9?????
Is this a wind up, or are you a complete dickhead? |

Re: Will this cut it?
Seeing as the bet lost it appears very sensible to put such little on. In addition I assume you haven't been on the rags to riches board referred to in the thread, where £5 on low odds hoping to go all in each time is common.
I'm also surprised you are throwing insults looking at your post history...in 3 years it suggests you've made 8 posts: Your only tip for Federer in straight sets - lost. You had to ask if different bookies have different rules in settling bets where a player retired injured, which suggests you're either not an expert or betting on things when you don't know the rules. And the third posting a score update on Porto which wasn't actually the result. So forgive me at this point if I refrain from thinking you are an expert and take every bit of your advice! |

You tell him DavidNo need for that comment Pk1234, he's posting up his tips (which as he's pointed out, is more than you've ever done on here). What he's staking on those tips is none of yours or anyone else's business. |

Re: Will this cut it?
RC, judging by the speed of his quick wit it will be another 6 months before we get a response.
Only annoying part was the fact the bet was shit, and probably done out of boredom. Back to normal betting I think. |
