Re: Accenture Match Play Championship
Did a huge preview for this and I've gone and left it at work
![]() Went through the card and squiggled out those with a poor matchplay record, poor mentality, without big stage experience(mainly the smaller Euro tour players), not much competition practice this year, age, and poor current form. My final list to choose from went something like: Tiger - surprising choice for his comeback tournament, but like most events he has a record that is second to none and still a worthy favourite. Having said that, on a tough course which he hasnt played before, over 5 days, there are so many variables that I cant take him at the current price. Just. Stenson - Outstanding matchplayer in great form this season - should be a few pts shorter imo. Ogilvy - Cut and paste Stenson comment here. Donald - Ultra consistent recently, without ever hitting a stellar round to get him right into contention. That wont matter here and we should see the performance he's been promising for weeks. Love III - good form and solid record, but I think age might be against him in this intense schedule. Stricker - good record and in good form, but has had two tough defeats in recent weeks and they must be playing on his mind, which isnt great for this format. Poulter - Revelation in the Ryder Cup and has looked in ok form in recent weeks. Unlike a lot of the Europeans he seems to revel in playing in the US and will love this challenge. McIlroy - will be daunted but having a first match against a fellow Euro Tour player and relative newcomer in Oosthuizen will be a big help. After that, who knows, he might just get inspired. Dustin Johnson - Hits the ball a long way and in stunning form. Lots of golf in recent weeks but he's young and that shouldnt be a problem. Quiros - should have been cut under a few of the criteria, but I love the way he plays and has already shown himself to be a fearless competitor. Like Johnson cant hit the ball a mile which might not be ideal here, but if he can drive a few of the par 4s it will give him a free hole or two against some opponents. Romero - should be perfect for matchplay given that his usual double and treble bogeys wont be quite so harshly punished. Played well last week and worth a punt for this. Weekley - hits the ball like a dream and nerves arent really a part of his game. Should enjoy this week and I'll have a small play. Lin - disregarding everything else, I've heard nothing but hugely positive interviews from him about how he belongs on this stage. At 600/1 plus I'll give have him onside as he gets the chance to prove that. So quite a few picks, but looking for a finalist out this lot at the very least... 3pts Stenson @ 24 with Betfair 3pts Ogilvy @ 26 with bet365 1.5pts Donald @ 46 with Betfair 1pts Poulter @ 67 with Bet365 1pts McIlroy @ 67 with Extrabet 1pts D Johnson @ 81 with VC Bet 0.5pts Quiros @ 95 with Betfair 1pts Romero @ 67 with Bet365 0.5pts Weekley @ 90 with Betfair 0.1pts Lin @ 650 with Betfair |

Re: Accenture Match Play Championship
Hanging in there is Donald - that was always the good side to his game in recent months...frighteningly consistent, and that might just be enough to win this type of tournament.
Better day for me today - after losing 5 players yesterday, 4 of the remaining 5 won today. Most of them were tough, narrow wins, and they go on to play players in great form, but I'll place my faith in the 'bounce' that usually hits golfers after good rounds or bad rounds, and hopefully 2 or 3 can make the quarters...none looking good, but in matchplay that often doesnt matter a great deal. |

On reflection im not sure Ogilvy Donald or McIlroy are playing well enough to beat red hot opponents, bounce or no bounce. Clark and Camilo look in superb form. Ive laid those three back for a nice profit, and will let Poulter ride for now.
Also adding Wilson as he was outstanding yesterday. 2pts @ 32. |

Re: Accenture Match Play Championship
Been an absolute nightmare trying to keep up to date with this tournament
![]() A mixture of being snowed under at work and a hormonal, pregnant missus has put paid to me seeing most of it. ![]() Anyways, I shall be doing my best to catch up over the weekend. Donald is currently 1 down thru 12, so he can hang in there. If Stewart Cink beats Lefty, I'll be interested to see how fairs in the later part of the tournament... I decided to back Ogilvy in play, @ 18's earlier in the week. Hoping to still have some betting interest, come Sunday night. |

Re: Accenture Match Play Championship
Maybe not Squire - Donald injured his wrist again on the 17th tee and conceded the hole and match there and then!
After doubting their chances, Ogilvy and Macca have flown round today(altho Camilo is beginning to warm up!) Poulter and Wilson need to make things happen on the closing few(Wilson been brilliant again but Leonard chips in on 17 to lead into the 18th , but another exciting day

Re: Accenture Match Play Championship
And thats a perfect lesson on how to turn a good looking book into a very average one in the space of a few hours
![]() 3 days in and back to around zero on everyone, so time to start again. Macca v Ogilvy is intruiging - Ogilvy isnt playing that well and benefited from an off colour Camilo today, altho its in tight matches where Geoff excels. Geoff as a slight favourite looks right to me so I'll leave alone, altho would like to see Rory do the business. Price looks right for Els v Cink imo too - Els has been playing very well this week, going on little birdie streaks which are hugely important in matchplay where momentum can play such a part. Cink is a bit of a plodder, but that's been good enough so far and I wont be backing Els as fav. Other two matches are more interesting imo...S O Hair is the weakest player left in the draw based on his play this week - Weekley was poor against him and Poulter again today threw in his worst performance thus far. O Hair made some errors today and that's what Casey doesnt do. A just 5.4 in the outright Casey doesnt look like much of a punting prospect but I think there's some mileage in the price. And the reason why is that I think Fisher will beat Leonard. Fishers stats are probably the most impressive this week - and infact he's been -6 for each of his last 2 rounds, over just 13 holes yesterday and 15 today. The course seems set up perfectly for him. Leonard upped his game today to beat Wilson, but still cant quite get to grips with the course with a lot of sloppy bogies. With all the attention on Macca, Fisher is showing no nerves and making solid progress. With a kind draw, there's no way he should be the outsider of the 8 imo. And if he progresses with Casey, then Casey's price should drop nicely too. 4pts Casey @ 5.4 2pts Fisher @ 11 |

![]() I was actually checking the score on the internet at the time, and they hadn't put concession on the card ![]() Looking forward to todays play and Ogilvy possibly progressing. Although, I must say Rory's game looked in good shape yesterday...
