i only got to watch the last few holes of the play-off tonight, but managed to catch pretty much all of yesterday's play and two things stand out for me (in no particular order):
1 Tiger's determination - admittedly his opponents could have made things more difficult for him

2 Mediate's demeanour - didn't previously know much about the guy (obviously its a name once heard you tend to recognise) but his manner round the course is a complete contrast to many of today's pros. He was chattering all the way round, he acknowledged the crowd at ever single opportunity and was magnaminous (sp?) in defeat. i also think he has done the USGA a massive favour by making the 18 hole play-off such a success.

Roll on the British Open!!

Well that was closer than I expected at the start of the day I predicted a 2 shot margin of victory at the start of todays play (70 - 72) but both ended on that level par 71.

Very impressed with Mediate, he really didnt bottle it one jot did he. Having said that, there was never actually any moment when I thought Tiger wouldnt ultimately come through. He never fails to birdie/eagle 18th holes it seems.

Overall as I had hoped the Torrey Pines course was the main factor in this Woods win, there isnt any other course (bar maybe Firestone) where he would have won this with a buggered knee. Its pretty clear he would have comfortably won this tourny if fully fit.

Definitely cemented himself as one of my favourite sportsmen of all time with that performance, some real great moments in there. I love the fist pumping celebrations, the 60 foot eagle and 18th must hole birdie on the Sunday stand out as awesome moments. Just astounding he can win with that injury imo because I had no clue it was anywhere near that bad. I didnt think wed see any actual signs of pain from him, I thought it was basically better after the op and itd just be a bit stiff cos he hadnt played much.

Will we see Tiger at Royal Birkdale for the British Open Championship in a month? Now theres something I wouldnt like to bet on!

Aye great pick there muse - scary to think how many he could have won that by if he hadn't been hampered as his driving was pretty terrible all week.

Read a few reports suggesting he might have to have more surgery fairly soon as a result of how its been this week...hopefully not as that would mean he would miss the Open but he looks like he will struggle anyway. As you say he knew Torrey Pines like the back of his hand which helped no end, but on an unfamiliar course with that injury, he'd be struggling big time.

I won't be betting on Tiger for the Open , like you pointed out muze he used his knowledge of the course to overcome his handicap [ no pun intended]

Thought Woods was lucky the sudden death hole was won he had played well and Mediate had struggled on,might well have been result should the hole had been one that Woods had struggled on.

just reread my post , i did not mean the playoff hole but the 18th hole prior to the "final" hole my Homer moment
