Re: Mallorca Classic (European Tour)

Won't get involved till after round 2 again but this is an interesting one...a fairly weak field lit up by Fasth and Garcia - Garcia has finished top 2 in each of the last 3 years - that's a remarkable record and obviously affects the price which starts at 5.50.

That's could be either remarkably short or remarkably long(way to go Einstein!) 5.50 looks tiny in a huge field on the European Tour, which are usually very open events, unlike some of the pitch and putt stuff from the states. Most of the massive field are capable of nailing it for 4 rounds and taking the title, and the threats to Garcia could come from anywhere.

Or.....

Top 2 in the last 3 years, in Spain, and a weak(but huge) field sets this up beautifully for Garcia - it's not unlike some of the tournaments Tiger goes into where he enjoys a huge class advantage over the field, knows the course, and has terrific form over it. And Tiger's prices for those type of events are never near the 5.50 mark. Ok, Garcia is no Tiger, but then again this field looks a lot weaker than the ones Tiger lines up against.

I've no clue whether its long or short, but will watch the first 2 rounds with interest.

You'll get over evens on Garcia finishing top 5 though - even if he gets trumped by a few players having a stellar week, he should be there or thereabouts down the stretch - decent price I would have thought.

Re: Mallorca Classic (European Tour)

Ok carrying on with Garcia,
Skybet have him at 5/6 to win his 3-ball against T.Bjorn 73-73-69-76 last year he was entering the tourney in poor form as he did the previous year,P.Martin makes up the 3-ball no previous in this event 178 on the euro tour, did finish 21st last time out in the Portugal masters for whats that worth.

P.McGinley -Evens Betfair who is in poor form did finish t-6th last year finishing with a 69-67 again wasnt in great from at around this tourney time, shouldnt have any problems disposing of G.McDowell who has no previous in this event and ranked 52nd on tour with form in his last 3 tourney finishes 69-36-32 is hardly going to be a tough opponent for McGinley.

Re: Mallorca Classic (European Tour)

Ok so here's the script...what's been working for me for a while now is looking for two things when searching out the winners of the golf with a round or two to go...a) their potential to close out a tournament(never having won before is a major impediment, also quality of field at the top of the leaderboard as that adds pressure, who they are playing with, whether they are in the final group etc etc - all factors in this), and b) how well they have 'responded' to bogies during the tournament...I've found that quite often those that grab a birdie or two immediately after a bogey or worse are those that are 'in the mood' for the week and maintain their form into the final round, moreso than those that have had bogey free rounds.

On that basis, I've got no selections for the final round of the Mallorca Classic , as Derksen hasn't been responding well to his bogies this week, and those that do don't fill me with confidence in terms of closing it out(and I can't bet in running as i'm in Australia.)

My guess would be Bourdy, Little or Lawrie to get into early contention or probably the lead - before they either squeeze over the line or Derksen hunts them down. Potential for a bit of trading there I think.

Will have a look at the US later on.
