Golf This Week(KLM and Barclays)

Weak field at the KLM, mega strong at the Barclays. That means I'll probably give the KLM outrights a miss until about round 3 as there's too many in real contention to get anywhere near a good idea of how it'll pan out without loads of work.

Barclays looks a bit more promising, Tiger sittiing it out which he might regret in terms of the Fed Ex playoffs if Vijay puts a run together which he is capable of given his playoff form. Sergio, Vijay, Padraig and Ernie all have good history at the Barclays...a lot of them come into this after a little break and ready to finish the season strongly...I'd be surprised if the top of the leaderboard isn't jammed with the cream of the crop this week so I wont be straying too far from the favourites with the outright bets later this week.

Re: Golf This Week(KLM and Barclays)

Yep reckon your right Beanie, this tournie is usually won by a big name. With that in mind i'm gonna have to be boring and go with Singh(16/1) Harrington(22/1) and Garcia(20/1). Garcia has won here twice while Singh won it three times. Harrington has won it once and finished runner up once as well.

Since 2002 only 2 players other than the above 3 have won it. Hopefully Furyks still not firing on all cylinders due to his back injury. Snedekers available at 50's for anybody who thinks he can follow up last weeks victory.

Verdict:
10 E/W on Singh @16/1
10 E/W on Garcia @20/1
10 E/W on Harrington @22/1
5 E/W on Verplank @40/1(I can't help it!I'm addicted to backing the Scottster.)

Re: Golf This Week(KLM and Barclays)

Yawn, the KLM is as uninspiring as it gets...the 3 balls look a drab affair and I'll just avoid the thing till Saturday.

Barclays...I like that play Chief - usually spend a lot of time pre-tournament looking for big prices with big potential, but I really don't see the point this week. The market leaders look rested and ready to fire, course suits, history looks good.

Won't back Ernie as he does look a bit short...altho still likely to feature at some point. Just can't understand him being that much shorter than Vijay.

Vijay was playing well a few weeks ago, despite having played a silly number of tournaments back to back. Now with a bit of rest, I'm pretty sure we'll see the real deal this week. Garcia and Harrington the sensible backup bets - in stunning form - certainly better form than when the pair won here so looks good for them too.

Gonna tread on your toes a bit here Chief...same for me(plus John Senden - T18 here last year and comes into this in great form):

Singh @ 20
Harrington @ 24
Garcia @ 24
Senden @ 110

All top 10 @ 3.60, 4.20, 4.40, 12.00

Singh Top 5 @ 5.90

And a final one:

Big 8 v the Field @ 2.54 (consisting Els, Furyk, Garcia, Singh, Harrington, Rose, Scott, Mickelson.)

Don't usually put that many punts on pre tourney but for this one I can't see myself doing too much in running...hopefully just sit and wait for the cream to rise to the top - or disappear down the bottom Cmon Vijay!

And nice to see there should be live online coverage right from the start tomorrow - what with that and the World Athletics, that's all my free time accounted for

Good man Beanie, had meant to check out this bet yesterday but completely forgot. I'm on this one too.

Bah Paddy Power are only going big 6 against the field @11/5. Same as Beanie bar Scott and Rose. As a keen golfing gambler it really is a thundering disgrace that I still haven't got a betfair account sorted out for myself. For shame Chief, for shame.

Verdict: Big 6 against the field @11/5

Well there's a lot of cream at the top, it's just all the wrong uns That was a nasty old day - Singh out of it already...Harrington a good distance back and Garcia not much better. Mickelson, Scott, Choi, Goosen, Els all up the top.

Time to reassess methinks.

The wrong uns indeed. Fcuk ya anyway Ernie. At least the 6 against the field is looking ok I suppose. As Beanie said Singhs out of it and Harrington and Garcia with work to do. Verplank had an ok round and lies on -3, 5 behind leader Sabbatini. Hopefully our boys can pick up today.

Watched a bit of the KLM yesterday and was impressed with Bernard Langer who played decent golf shooting a -3.(Unlike his son who shot 98 on his pro tour debut!)
Gonna have a sneaky few quid E/W on Bernie @20/1(Boylesports)

Re: Golf This Week(KLM and Barclays)

What the fcuks happened to Robert Allenby these days? He started the year off with 6 top 10 finishes in 8 starts but ever since has been terrible. Hes missed 5 cuts out of the last 8 and will almost definitely miss it again this weekend. Strange old game this golf.

With that in mind i'm gonna take Cink @Evens to beat Allenby and Byrd. This is the bet that might just turn Allenbys season around. Watch him shoot 62 today!

Re: Golf This Week(KLM and Barclays)

Good luck Chief...my only 3 ball for today is Choi v Sabbatini/Johnson @ 2.88. Watched a lot of this group yesterday and Choi was looking so cool and so consistent...his swing is working really well and he should go out and shoot another safe round today. Sabbatini can outplay him as he showed yesterday, but always looks far too anxious out on the course and I'm still not convinced of his merits as a leader of big tournies. Z Johnson is always capable of a big round, especially in the bigger tournies, but the Choi price looks just about big enough to take on.

Re: Golf This Week(KLM and Barclays)

Better day - Choi cruises the 3 ball, Harrington back in top 10 contention and Garcia back in overall contention(just about).

Choi leads by 2 from Beem...the late starters will do well to get near those two as scoring has been tougher today. Looks good for KJ...his record of closing out tournies when leading is superb, almost as good as Tiger's(something like 5 out of the last 6 when leading at halfway).

No joy in America this weekend with none of the big six bar Els playing well. Stricker stole it from Choi at the death with 4 birdies in his last 5 holes. Sick for poor little KJ.
Made a few quid with Langer in Europe and a couple of 3 ball wins but a bad weekend overall.
