Re: USPGA (US Tour) Live On Sky
Stewart Cink each way @ 67 at Ladbrokes is my 1st bet as he has been solid all summer and has a good record at this course.
All my other outright bets are at Paddy as they are again paying out on 6 places.
It's pretty much the same names that have served me well over the last few months: -
Sabbatini, Mahan, Fasth & K J Choi - all are still in good form, although Fasth maybe coming off the boil now.

Re: USPGA (US Tour) Live On Sky
First thing when betting on the PGA is you may as well rule out any Europeans to win as none have ever won this before. In a sport with such a load of horses to look at thats a pretty nice stat and it cuts out a lot of players to look at. Obviously a european could win but since none have in 85 years or whatever im not gona try and pick one out!
Ive gone for VJ Singh (33/1), Zach Johnson e/w (66/1) and Geoff Ogilvy (113/1). All look good value to me at those prices. This is VJs favourite, hes won the PGA twice before and its about time he pushed for a major again, hes in good enough form to do it in general. Johnson after a bit of an injury halted his excellent form is looking good again now I think. I think he might actually be an awesome player but only time will tell whether he wins more majors but I think he will. Ogilvy is just long for a very good player who has won a major recently, hes not a 1 hit wonder as such hes done well in a few of them.
Im sticking with 3 bets I made for the US Open exactly the same which are all Top 5 bets, Justin Rose (7/1), Tim Clark (11/1) and Chris Di Marco (12/1). All have continued or furthered their form since that and have good major pedigrees. Tim Clark has finished 2nd, 2nd, 6th in his last 3 events. Rose has just been quality this season (4 top 5s from 11 events this season) finishing right up there a lot without actually winning. Di Marco looks to have got his game back again lately.
One Top 10 bet ive made is Steve Stricker (6/1). I dont see why hes that big at all. After returning after a few years of nothingness hes been top notch the last 2 seasons. For the last 2 seasons in all events has finished 13/35 finished top 10. His last 5 majors have gone 6th, 7th, missed cut, 13th, 8th. It shouldnt be 6/1 going on all that form over the last 2 years or so.

Re: USPGA (US Tour) Live On Sky
The reason why I havent backed any of the Top 5/Top 10 players to win is because they seem to have a few issues with actually winning events and thus dont represent value to actually take a title. Im mainly talking about Di Marco and Rose though. Rose although capable for sure, does NOT represent value at about 30/1 or so that really is too short. I think he will win one day but still you cant look past the fact hes not won even 1 single time on the PGA tour in over 100 tournaments. Di Marco has just had an appalling amount of 2nds and 3rds throughout his career. It must be a mental thing with him cos hes had 3 wins but 20 times has come 2nd or 3rd, pretty mad. Tim Clark is a bit bottlery as well I reckon cos hes never won an event but has finished in the top 5 a whole load of times. Steve Strickers just a bit of a steady eddy really.

Re: USPGA (US Tour) Live On Sky
Paddy Power - Horse Racing, Football, Cricket, Golf, Big Brother and more.
Gonna be a little bit controversial and rule out all the Europeans myself. Yep, every last one. They never ever do well in this tournament and despite all the talk of Harringtons British Open win opening the floodgates I'm not convinced.
Obviously Tiger is the man to beat this week, so cunningly I've decided to use the betting without Woods market! Ingenious eh?
That leaves me with Els, Furyk, Mickleson, Singh, Choi, Scott,Goosen, Romero, Clark, Cink, Perry, Di Marco, Verplank, Cabrera,Sabattini, Johnson, Toms, Stricker, Ogilvy, Appleby, Pampling, Immelman, Baadely, Glover, Love and Weir from the players 100/1 or lower.
From the remainder I've picked out Olazabal Rollins Wetterich Kelly Micheel Snedeker all of who have performed well in various PGA events this year. I left out Boo Weekely as with only 2 par 5's on the course and an emphasise on placement rather than power I don't think it'll suit him.
Going back to my original list I've taken out Els, Goosen, Mickleson Scott Clark Cink Toms Ogilvy Appleby Immelman Love and Weir. None of whom I reckon are in great form coming into this event.
So that leaves me with a shortlist of Furyk, Singh, Choi, Romero, Perry, Verplank, Cabrera, Sabbatini, Johnson, Stricker, Glover, Olazabal, Rollins, Wetterich and Kelly.
Furyk is going to be my main hope this weekend and I reckon he has a great chance. He's 2nd in the Driving Accuracy stats and thats important for a tight course like this. He's in magnificent form of late and won the Canadian Open 2 weeks back. He didn't start last week due to a minor injury but is apparently fighting fight again now.
KJ Choi is my 2nd hope and again he's in good form and should give me a run for my money. He's won 2 tournaments in the past month and finished a respectable 7th last weekend in the WGC.
The rest of my shortlist I shall put a few quid on E/W at decent prices. I'll also chance my arm with the Hunter Mahan to be leading after 1st round bet which came up for me last week. 40/1 again this time.
Verdict:
25 Points E/W on Furyk @18/1
15 Points E/W on Choi @25/1
7.50 Points E/W on Singh @20/1, Verplank @45/1, Cabrera@50/1, Sabbatini@50/1, Johnson@50/1
7.50 Points Each on top 10 finish for Stricker@11/2, Glover@8/1, Olazabal@16/1, Rollins@16/1, Wetterich@16/1 and Kelly@12/1.
5 Points on Hunter Mahan to be 1st round leader @40/1
5 Points Petterson to be top European player @28/1

Re: USPGA (US Tour) Live On Sky
1st Round 3 ball picks:
John Rollins @Evens V Small and Dougherty. Dougherty hasn't played too much on the PGA and I reckon he could struggle this weekend. I've never heard of Small and i'm just gonna assume hes crap!
Jerry Kelly @11/8 V McGinley and McKenzie: Nice price here for Kelly as I reckon McGinley will definitely struggle this weekend. McKenzie is nio mug but hopefully he'll have one of his off days.
Charles Howell III @7/4 V Westwood and Katayama: Westwood has gradually getting back to his best over the past couple of years and hes nota million miles away from challenging again but Howell III has had a good year and although his form has dipped lately i'm gonna take him at 7/4.
Jim Furyk @13/10 V Byrd and Donald: Donald has been playing terribly the last few months and looks set for another disappointing weekend. Furyk is usually pretty quick out of the blocks and 13/10 looks a great price to me.

i thought you had mentioned he was 40/1 so speaking to a guy in the bookies and on the back of Lads USPGA tour coupon he is 40/1 but on the screen (just happened to be on when I went in) he was quoted at 66/1.
Ended up doing him EW cause I thought you had backed him at 40's and this was a bit of value anyway I'm sorry pydoom but I'm gone and spooked your bet as I'm on as well

You've got yourself a winner there, I am very confident about this bet - come sunday we'll be counting the cash
I must admit that I missed steve stricker, so thanks for pointing him out and I've added him each-way to my portfolio.
Just read in the RFO that of the 6 previous USPGA's & US Open's played at the course 5 of them have produced wire-to-wire winners - is that just a useless fact or something important

Re: USPGA (US Tour) Live On Sky
Nice work team - can't disagree with any thoughts posted so far.
Well worth ignoring most of the Euro/Euro Tour mob...even someone like Romero should struggle this week despite recent good form. Like muze says that helps thin the field a lot - one of them could win but in terms of value they don't really have any.
Strong US Tour players or those in good nick should show well here...I think we're along the right lines with Di Marco, Verplank, Cink, Stricker, Mahan and the like.
Chief...was gonna say that Pettersen to be Top European bet @ 28/1 was an unbelievable price given he's one of the few Euros on the US Tour and has been playing very consistently over there, but I see he's pulled out Damn shame as that would have been a price to charge in on.
Back in a mo with my bets.

Re: USPGA (US Tour) Live On Sky
This year I've gone for
Poulter - hoping to get on at 200.0
Chris DiMarco - hoping to get on at 80 but odds seem to be shortening at the moment
Andres Romero at 60.0
and for a sneeky outsider
Monty at 290.0. I still have faith in the old dog and if he's going to ever win a major it will either be the Open or the USPGA. He ballsed it up last year but he's not been playing that bad and I'm hoping at worst, it will give me a trading opportunity.

Re: USPGA (US Tour) Live On Sky
Ok...Southern Hills...nice fairways and greens, but you have to make sure you stay on them...by all accounts the rough is going to be fairly penal this week - not tricky to recover from but tricky to progress the ball too far, so driving accuracy important.
Another point to consider is the heat - another reason to avert eyes from the Europeans...could struggle.
Anyway, onto the betting...will go through the 3 balls to make sure I dont miss anyone...
Heath Slocum v Sterne/Rudosky @ 2.26 - dodgy spell a few months ago but played well last two tournaments...T22 and T6...and is v accurate off the tees. Plays well around tight courses...price looks generous as Sterne went into the open with all the form in the world (3 top 5s in 4 tourneys) and played pretty poorly. Did ok last week but nothing to suggest he can outdo Heath here.
Lay John Daly v Elkington/Micheel @ 4.3
Short odds selection but I like both his opponents here and think Daly should be 7s or worse. His driving is erratic at best and he wont like this tight course...up against two very handy players who like this type of course in this 3 ball and looks way too short to me.
Mahan v Choi/Stenson @ 2.88
Mahan usually starts at 100mph as Chief has noted and driving is v solid. Stenson is a bit of a mess at the mo and Choi is solid and should post a steady round, but I'll take the Hunter to have a wee birdie fest tomorrow and set off stronger.
Perez v Milka Singh/Jaquelin @ 2.56
Solid US Tour player who finished 4th round Colonial(a similar course) earlier this season, against a couple of Euro Tour players who are in indifferent form after occasional flashes of promise. Perez should enjoy this one.
Glover v Casey/Appleby @ 3.30
Cracking price here - shouldn't be the outsider. Casey has been up and down since his lay off, and won't fancy the midday heat too much. Appleby is inconsistent at the moment and has been v unreliable of late...Glover comes in from 4 top 12s in 5 tournaments, and plays well on these tight tracks. Should start well and I'd have him fav here.

Re: USPGA (US Tour) Live On Sky
Onto the Tourney Matchbets:
Langer v Daly @ 1.70
Just can't see Daly getting anywhere near making the cut...he misses fairways far too often to get in amongst things around this course. Langer is getting on a bit but has still been consistent on the US Tour and knows how to keep his rounds together, something Daly cant do, and I fancy him to make the cut here.
Erm...thats about it. The 'other' markets...
Hole in One @ 2.66
I think we'll see one...the greens here are pretty receptive and the players should be spinning the ball towards the hole nicely...Par 3s offer some decent opportunities.
Need to oppose some Europeans who could struggle with some miss the cut punts:
Lay Stenson To make the Cut @ 1.60 - as above, bit of a mess at the mo.
Lay Monty to make the cut @ 1.90 - dont think he'll enjoy it this week. The heat could get to him and he's been awfully grumpy of late when off to a bad start.
20 or more players under par @ 4.3
Field is strong, greens offering up plenty of birdie chances for those that drive well. I think a lot of the field will tame this course come rounds 3 and 4.
Bjorn Top Nordic @ 9.2
Not in great form hence the price, but has shown ability to deal with sky high temperatures in the past which his Skando friends could struggle with.

Re: USPGA (US Tour) Live On Sky
Onto the Outrights/Top5/Top 10:
Outright:
Mahan @ 75
Johnson @ 80
Perry @ 85
Verplank @ 95
Not convinced by the market leaders, there's a -ve beside most of them whether it be injury, form, or a dislike for this type of course. Keeping it simple with some tidy drivers who are in consistent form.
Top 5:
Di Marco @ 15
When he gets a bit of momentum going he can be unstoppable which is why I'll have him top 5 rather than top 10, and seems to love the big occasion...but as muze says his ability to close out a lead is suspect so no appeal on the outright.
Top 10:
Stricker @ 6.6
Johnson @ 6.6
Perry @ 6.8
Verplank @ 6.6
Glover @ 12
Micheel @ 13
Elkington @ 16
That's my fleet for this one...all steady eddys who have shown a liking for this type of course in the past. Perry bet a tad bigger than the others in this market.
And that's my lot...phew! Generally an anti-Euro, anti-big gun, pro-solid, unspectacular American stance, which I reckon is a decent line for this one, but the proof will be in the pudding. Or the golf. Whichever takes your fancy. It's late.
Good luck all
