Plenty of people will disagree with me here, but Goosen in this 3-ball appeals, and im going to need lady luck to be on my side.
Bridgestone Invitational R 1 Goosen/ Leonard/ Sterne Book Closes 2 Aug 18:10
Retief Goosen @ 2.25 is the selection
Richard Sterne 2.70 no experience on the Us Tour
Justin Leonard 3.40 playing poorly although did manage t-31 in this event last year.
His made this tournament his own, what is it 5 wins in 9 yrs and been placed here on numorous occasions,he will be coming here as a confidence boaster for next weeks PGA.
Robert Allenby @100/1! Gonna have to have a piece of that. Allenby is generally 50/1-60/1 at the start of PGA tournaments. Not sure why he's so big and i'm gonna give him a go this weekend.
Tiger has a brilliant record in this tournament and has never been outside the top 5(he's won it 5 times). So i'm gonna have a few quid on the Woods.
Hunter Mahan is developing a bit of a habit of blazing into early leads on the tour this year before invariably fading away. I'm gonna take him @40/1 to be leader after the 1st round.
Scott Verplank @80/1 has been in great form on the tour lately. In his last 4 PGA tournaments hes come 7th 8th 7th 5th. Hopefully he can improve on his relatively poor WGC record.
Verdict:
50 Points win on Tiger @9/4
10 E/W on Allenby @100/1
10 E/W on Verplank 80/1
10 Points win on Mahan to be 1st round leader @40/1
My 3 ball picks are Mahan @5/4 V Stenson and Milkha Singh
Boo Weekely @ an overpriced 2/1 V Harrington and Clarke.(Harrington may well be suffering a hangover from his Open win and hes never been the greatest starter anyway. Clarke has slowly been getting back to form but hes still not there. Weekely has been solid on tour all year and I really fancy him today.)
Christ almighty Chief! Did that Mahan bet land at 40/1?! Albeit a 3 way tie for the lead but even then its a handy payout...Verplank sitting nicely and Woods handily placed as well.
Gonna have a nights trading on this after sitting out the first two rounds...Tiger is nicely poised and I can't see the field going away from him today...the course should play a little tougher today I think and I'm not convinced the final pair will be able to sustain their good form of yesterday so I'll look to the experience and talent sitting back in the pack.
Opening up with:
Woods @ 2.84 Westwood @ 60 Casey @ 55 Di Marco @ 44
Davis Love sailed round in 65 yesterday but it was still inconsistent golf that he's making a habit of just now, contrasting to the steady, par heavy stuff Di Marco has produced so far this week. On a tough course I'll take the steady consistency every time - looks an ok price.
Di Marco wins with a scrappy +2 to Love's +4, Tiger puts in a solid round to tighten things at the top and shorten into 1.55, Johnson disappears and the outsiders make little inroads. Woods only headed by Sabbatini now and the South African looks a little jittery at times...hence the short price I guess. Kenny Perry the only other clear danger at the mo.
Will trade out at 1.55 and reasses in the morning.
Well done on your 3-ball pick Beanie @ over 2 and all.
DiMarco tied 4th for you at the mo,and Cheifs pick Verplank who I followed him with tied 4th also
