Re: Canadian Open (Us Tour)

Pretty weak field innit?

Furyk won this last year(albeit on a different course) but he and VJ look quite short here, especially after a transatlantic dash. The course lends itself to long hitters and is said to be links-style - it was remodelled last year to narrow the fairways but from what I've read the rough isn't particularly nasty so big drives that end up in there will be just as good as short biffs down the middle of the fairway. Because of that, and the Open being only a few days ago, I'll make a tentative start with two long hitters who didn't play last week and could make a strong start this week:

Brandt Snedeker @ 40
Bubba Watson @ 60

Re: Canadian Open (Us Tour)

Snedeker shoots an ok 67(-4) leaving him T9 and down to around 18s, but could have been a lot better if he hadn't leaked a couple at the last few holes. Hunter Mahan tore up the course early on with 3 eagles to post a stunning 62, and if he puts in another solid round tomorrow this one could be near enough over before we reach the weekend. Hopefully not.

Bubba is +1 through 17 and looking pretty uninspirational...will need something special tomorrow to get in contention and it doesn't look likely on current form.

Re: Canadian Open (Us Tour)

Steady -3 for Snedeker today to lie top 5, but I think his race is run as he's not show the consistency needed to shoot the -4/-5/-6 he'll need from his last 2 rounds to win. Time to lay off the Snedeker bet to get a positive outcome on everyone, then reinvest in Hunter Mahan. It's time to get him onside I think - a lot of the main challengers have tried and failed to challenge today - ok Furyk has gone closeish with a -5 but even a steady round from Hunter today could see him about 6 clear of his nearest realistic challengers, and I think he'll trade shorter after his 18 holes today.

Lay Brandt Snedeker @ 18.50
Hunter Mahan @ 3.25

-5 for Bubba today - makes the cut now but given that he was -6 through 9 could really have gotten back into contention if he had kicked on...not quite enough.

Re: Canadian Open (Us Tour)

Oh dear god, what a nightmare round from the Hunter, +3 when the standard score is -3/-4 and Furyk and Singh charge to the top. Will let the Hunter bet run as he's still only a few shots off the lead, and hopefully now that the pressure is off he can get back to his first round form.

Re: Canadian Open (Us Tour)

Mahan back in the...Hunt, so to speak, -10, 2 off Singh's lead. Its a longshot but the way he has been playing he could go out and shoot the necessary, and avoiding the last group should help him.

Overall, don't see much value in laying this one off so time to let it run and cross those fingers.
