I got the infamous Super System 2 by
Doyle Brunson. It's an updated version of the original super system with plenty new material that takes into account the onlike poker situation. Contributions from loads of the usual suspects like Chan, Caro and some others who were not about for the orginal super system like Negreanu etc. You might want to ignore the section on limit-hold 'em cos that was written by Jennifer Harman and everyone knows women can't play poker

Nah Just kidding

It's a large book, 672 pages. I haven't anywhere near finished it. I'll be quite interested in reading some of the chapters on the other games I have little/no experience with like triple draw although I'm not sure if I ever really intend to play any of these.
Books like this and the theory of poker are packed full of great information but for entertainment value I still think "The education of a poker player" by Yardley is hard to topple. It won't be as much use if you are interested in hold 'em as draw poker was pretty much the game at the time although there's plenty mention of other types. However the lessons it teaches are relevant to all types of poker and they are told with superb humour and wit.
Ian Fleming said of this book... "I sent to America for this book, was delighted with it and gave some copies away for Christmas. I said the book contained a hatful of some of the finest gambling stories I had ever read. The book would certainly become a classic."
I didn't get this for Christmas as I've had this book a while now and originally read it a long long time although I wasn't actively playing poker at the time. Still one of my favourite books that. Even if you only have a loose interest in poker/gambling or even not at all I think you could appreciate this book for the characters in it and the wry humour.
