WSOP 2007

Just read this on danish newspaper..

In 'The Poker Edge' on ESPN Phil Gordon from Full Tilt Poker has mentioned, that Harrahsm that is behind WSOP, might chance the buy in methods from next year.. They want to change so, poker site CAN NOT make buy in to the main event, in another site.. That means that Stars will not be able to send 1800 players to WSOP next year... The only thing they can do is, making these sats, for WSOP, and pay out the 10K$ prize.. And then the player has to contact WSOP, and then buy in... But how many will do that, if they got 10K$ in their hand???

This year almost 75% of the 8773 players was from online tournaments. So thats about 2200 players next year, if no one buys in...

I have tried to find the article on english, but no luck yet..

Yeah I read something about that. Dyou think they are trying to reduce numbers? First the whole USA gambling bill and now possibly this.

I have to admit I for one would no way buy in for 10K if I was actually given the cash and allowed to do with it what I pleased. I would buy in to a 1K tourny or maybe a 1K tourny and a 1.5K tourny and just keep the rest.

Re: WSOP 2007

Dont know if its couse they want to keep the number down... But could be... If you win 4-5Mill$ or 12Mill$ is a BIG difference.. But doesnt make a big difference for the lives of the people winning it.. Maybe only to the better imo.

Think its coincidence that this comes up now, on the same time as the bill...

Agree muze.. If i won 10K$. I would buy in for a 1K and 1.5K tourney.. and then thats it.... And then off course... If won anything there, then maybe main event, if you won enough... But i would NEVER use the 10K to the entry....

Sometimes when i try 3 or 10$ sats for 215+ tourneys... I just hope i can take the cash most times.. Couse i think its waste i play 215+ tourneys couse i suck..

Re: WSOP 2007

Hmmm I wonder if the top players are a little frustrated with all the internet donks I mean it doesn't matter how good a poker player you are, it's hard to wade through 6000 internet qualifying donks ! Part of me thinks the world series of poker should be for the best poker players in the world to compete against each other and not just an open free for all so to say. Another part of me thinks anyone who wants to should be able to have a shot at it. I do think making people buy-in themselves will drastically reduce the entrants and they'll get only "serious" players which is what they want I guess.
Even without thousands of extra playes the world series can be very crap shooty as it is as blind levels go up quickly and it doesn't leave an awful lot of room for actual poker to be played. With numbers of a couple of thousand it's almost impossible for this not to be the case, nevermind 8000 odd. I think quite a few people have complained about this before.

There was talk amongst 'the big names' that the HORSE tourny they played was their new world championship. I think I remember it was 50K buy in? If so you can see why it only gained something like 150 entrants wasnt it? Too rich for me

What a load of bollocks, msot of the people who buy in are the donks, those coming from the internet are good and in most cases have proved there good enough by winning in big fields in at least one sat to the WSOP.

Thats IMO anyway.

In ever poker tv program I watch the internet players are just as good if not better than the "pros" but so annoying when the gay commentators say "oh thats the difference between a pro and an amateur" when a pro wins a pot against one and all like this ughhhh, i have to mute poker tv programs these days cos commentators on it infuriate me!

Re: WSOP 2007

Yeah I guess, Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan etc what a bunch of buying in donks.
I'm not saying people who play on the internet aren't good players but for every good internet player there's a thousand shite ones. Playing poker live is far different to playing online. With the amount of internet qualifiers there are it's not at all surprising that some of them get to latter stages and and even win tournaments. In fact it's highly likely you might say ! 75% of the entrants having come from online tournaments that article said.....not really a surprise to see some internet qualifiers at final tables really is it ?

Reaction from online sites was mixed. The site sending the most players to the WSOP for the last several years, Poker Stars, did not have a reply in time for inclusion in this report.
Pokerstars will have a big say in the numbers I feel.

Hmm this is a strange one cos I was gona try and qualify for that next year. Might not bother now if this is the case especially as many sites wont even be offering packages presumably. Defo still going to vegas though but might be my back up plan of playing in the 1K tourny.

Do we think last years ME will be the biggest tournament ever in poker history ever?

Whats with the Stereo? The big gap between when it starts and when the ME is? Wana see the event shchedule as soon as it comes out, almost certainly going to vegas next year and ill make it coincide with the $1000 tourny for good measure.

Re: WSOP 2007

I've already booked next year's holidays at work so that I'm off during the last week of July and the first two weeks of August...just on the off-chance I was going to qualify for the WSOP.
