Poker Enemies/Grudges

Do you feel they focus your game or are an unwelcome distraction.

I've been on a couple of poker rooms tonight and the same 2 or 3 names keep coming up against me, one absolute tosser has been ribbing me in the chat box for a couple of horrendous beats against him (I've done him too ). I think its quite funny but he is influencing me, we've been calling each other out into hands we wouldnt normally play for a while now and itll eventually start to cost us both.

Part of me doesnt give a shit though and is itching for another chance to put 2 4 unsuited up against his AK again, beat the cunt once already with terrible hands just to wind him up.

Sorry I know this place is all terribly sophisticated when it comes to cards but it must be a situation youve all come up against online before?

Re: Poker Enemies/Grudges

Do it as i do Spacecat and just have the speech and chat turned off. Im there to play my game and i dont care for talking. I think the correct adjusment to your play would be to forget about beating him etc and just play each hand at a time and with no influence from the past. I couldnt do that and thats why i jut have the chat turned off. Unless of course im pissed and i'm quite enjoying a bit of banter. Nah i just play my cards spacecat.

Re: Poker Enemies/Grudges

If I turn it off, how am I supposed to say 'I hope you lose every hand' to him?

You are right though and I know it, I like to play with my heart on my sleeve sometimes and get the banter going between the robots, especially after a few drinks.

Re: Poker Enemies/Grudges

I hardly ever use the chat box these days, just used to wind me up and put me off my game. If other people want to moan and complain about their luck, good. It probably means they're not going to be playing at their best, and that's who you want to play against.

I don't think there's any need to turn it off completely though - there's always information you can pick up from what others say.

Re: Poker Enemies/Grudges

i have the chat switched on, but i don't often respond. I play the lower stake STT's, there are plenty of muppets here (me included).
It often makes me laugh when people criticize the actions of others and dismiss them as Donks. etc on these tables - what standard of play do they expect for 3 or 5 euros - stuff like fold equity and pot odds etc don;t mean a thing to people who want to see flops and can all-in raises with K8 suited.
I try not to bite, as things have a habit of turning out for the worse if i get involved, the only time i do get involved is if they have a go directly at me.

I think there are other things that annoy me about the chat - the use of NH when someone catches running cards, or hits a one outer. Or when there is an all in and both players turn the same cards over 'LOL'.

Re: Poker Enemies/Grudges

we should play a game sometime 2damnhype, I love to sue LOL NH etc to wind people up.

its probably against the rules to type lol when you see a rival take a bad beat, nobodies ever pulled me up for it though.

had a cracking moment this morning in my now home 'double your money' game, i folded to a re-raise as a flush was on after a flop id hit KK on, the guy who took the money sai "LOL Thanks!" to me. the very next hand i picked up QQ and went all in, he called me as i was now short stacked and he thought i was pissed off, the Q's held up. 2 hands later i was left with him pre flop holding 66, i flopped another 6 and made a raise of "666" he called and i beat him again, fired a few jibes at him for calling a 666 raise and for being shite.

it was a good game and made me £10 richer.

in a more serious game i could understand why it wouldnt be the done thing!

Re: Poker Enemies/Grudges

Spacecat - i appreciate that the chat can be used to wind people up, and don't think i would mind that, but i have found that most of the people who are typing in the 'nh' and 'lol' are not taking the p1ss, they actually think its a nice hand, and they think its funny - quite sad really.
