Hand #13 - There is a dead button in seat 6, Carroll raises from the cutoff (effectively the button) to 475,000, Hansen thinks for a bit before reraising from the big blind to 1,325,000, and Carroll thinks for about a minute and a half before he folds.

Gus Hansen takes the pot, building his stack to 11,065,000. Carroll drops down to 7,860,000.

Hand #15 - Gus Hansen has the button in seat 2, he raises to 415,000, and Le calls from the big blind. The flop comes Q105, and both players check. The turn is the 4, Le moves all in for 615,000, and Hansen quickly calls with 1010 for a set of tens. Le can't believe it -- he shows 55 for a set of fives. Tommy Le is dominated here, and only one card in the deck can save him -- the five of hearts.

The river card is the 3, and Gus Hansen wins the pot with a set of tens. Nhan "Tommy Legend" Le is eliminated in fifth place, earning $395,725.

Re: WPT Championship Live Updates

Hand #16 - David Chiu has the button in seat 3, and there is no small blind. Hansen raises from the cutoff to 480,000, Carroll reraises from the big blind to 1.65 million, and Hansen thinks for a bit before he calls. The two chipleaders apparently aren't afraid to mix it up in a big pot.

The flop comes QJ6, Carroll checks, and Hansen stands up to get a better look at Carroll's chip stack across the table. After about two minutes of thinking with a pained expression on his face, Gus Hansen moves all in, and the crowd gasps.

Carroll looks surprised, but he takes his time, rechecking his cards and taking a close look at his own chip stack. If he calls and wins, he would be a dominant chipleader with 15 million, but if he loses, he's out of the tournament in fourth place. If he folds, he'll still have a little less than 6 million in chips, which is still a solid second on the leaderboard. Carroll seems to be studying everything but his opponent -- he only gives occasional glances Hansen's way.

Several times, it looks like Carroll has come to a decision, but then he continues thinking. He's definitely not Hollywooding it here.

Carroll finally calls all in for 6,925,000, and the crowd gasps. Carroll shows AJ for a pair of jacks. Hansen shows 75 for a diamond flush draw, and he'll need to improve to bust Carroll here.

The turn is the Q, and Carroll is still in the lead with two pair. Hansen needs any diamond but the queen (which would give Carroll a full house) to win the pot.

The river card is -- the 3!

The crowd screams as Gus Hansen rivers a diamond flush to win the biggest pot of the tournament.

Cory Carroll made the right call but got the wrong result, and he is eliminated in fourth place, earning $593,645.
With the blinds at 80,000-160,000 (15,000 ante), here are the updated chip counts:

Seat 1. John Roveto - 1,810,000
Seat 2. Gus Hansen - 20,885,000
Seat 3. David Chiu - 4,570,000

Yahtzee! Hansens such a lucky fcuker. Balls of steel by Carroll calling with the AJ there, well unlucky.

Re: WPT Championship Live Updates

This is so funny

Quote:
Hand #22 - John Roveto has the button in seat 1, he moves all in for 1,985,000, and Hansen quickly calls from the small blind with A10. Roveto shows KK, and he'll need it to hold up to stay alive.

The flop comes J98, and crowd reacts as Hansen picks up an open-ended straight draw.

The turn is the 6, and Hansen needs an ace, a queen, or a seven (11 outs) to bust Roveto here.

The river card is -- the 7!

The crowd laughs through their applause as Gus Hansen wins the pot with a jack-high straight.

John Roveto is eliminated in third place, earning $923,355.

Re: WPT Championship Live Updates

Three hours later, and Gus Hansen and David Chiu are still duking it out with the blinds at 150k/300k with a 25k ante. Tough HU battle and you have to give credit to Chiu for not caving in so easily whatever happens from here as they go into hand 76 with Hansen at 15.15m and Chiu at 12.125m.

Re: WPT Championship Live Updates

Lame, but yeah obviously respect to the old skool.

Quote:
It's worth repeating: David Chiu, who stood by quietly in the early stages of this final table while Gus Hansen steamrolled the other four players, has taken over the chip lead.

When heads-up play began, Hansen had a 5.25-to-1 chip lead, and 84% of the chips in play.

Gus Hansen - 11,550,000
David Chiu - 15,725,000

Re: WPT Championship Live Updates

Nooooooooooooooooo

Quote:
Gus Hansen has the button, he raises to 750,000, and Chiu calls. The flop comes A108, Chiu checks, Hansen bets 900,000, and Chiu calls. There is already 3.35 million in the pot.

The turn card is the 5, Chiu bets 1.2 million, and Hansen thinks for about 30 seconds before he moves all in for 8,675,000. After nearly two minutes of counting out his own chips, Chiu says, "I call."

The crowd leaps to their feet, waiting to see their cards. Gus Hansen shows 108 for two pair, while David Chiu shows A9 for a pair of aces with a flush draw. Chiu needs an ace, a nine, a five, or any spade to win the tournament right here.

The river card is -- the A!

The crowd cheers in surprise as David Chiu leaps in celebration, and quickly gets his hand on a Chinese flag that he waves near the table.

After the initial excitement of the hand wears off, the audience stands in stunned silence. Gus Hansen walks over to David Chiu as if he is in a daze.
Gus Hansen finishes in second place, earning $1,714,800. He'll have to wait for his fourth WPT title.

David Chiu defies the odds and the early momentum of Gus Hansen to win the Season III WPT World Championship, earning $3,389,140, two bracelets (one from Bellagio, one from WPT), a trophy. That prize also includes his entry into next season's WPT World Championship.

Re: WPT Championship Live Updates

Gus Shares Thoughts After Losing Massive Chip Lead
Gus Hansen knocked out every player from the final table of the $25,000 World Poker Tour Championship this weekend — except one. David Chiu, who stayed out of Hansen’s way as he destroyed the final table, came back from way behind to win the championship and $3 million-plus. Click here for the story.
Hansen shared a few of his thoughts with Card Player immediately following his second-place finish.

Card Player: Gus, how do you feel right now?

Gus Hansen: Well, to be honest, I am really disappointed right now. I know I am standing here with more than $1.7 million, but I can’t help feeling that I lost $1.7 million.

CP: How had you been playing throughout the tournament?

GH: My game is definitely at its high point right now. I basically feel like I am mastering a lot more nuances in my game today compared to just a couple of years ago, and, result-wise, it is paying off. I seem to have found a very good balance between sheer aggression and intuitive play, which helps me to add some pressure, as well as to back off in the right spots.

CP: Tell us about heads-up play?

GH: In retrospect, I made one mistake during heads up when I didn’t bet the 5-4-4 flop after raising preflop (David Chiu caught up on the river), but apart from that, I am very happy about my decisions. David Chiu folded in the right spots, when I reraised with J-J, K-K, and A-A, but managed to call with 5-5 when I reraised with 2-2. And most of the time, my hand was second-best when Chiu had a hand. In the final hand, containing more than 90 percent of the chips, I had a 64 percent winning chance, but it wasn’t to be. Poker is like that sometimes.

CP: What are you plans now?

GH: I will stay in Vegas for just another couple of days and then go back to Europe and chill for about a month. It looks like I am optimally prepared for a successful WSOP! Also, my book Every Hand Revealed is coming out on May 4, so we have a lot of different promotion activities lined up.

  • Was just thinking there, the best type of "fuck off " is the following; You`re playing astro, 5 a side, someone shouts "handball" and the "fuck off" response is fucking class.
