Re: Virgin Festival this weekend
I've just seen something on the Nutz tv suggesting the next festival could be in June in Nottingham.
The first chance to qualify will be on Wednesday

The final ten have been put up and Trick is not there so he is def out.
No idea where he came.
So now its time to cheer someone else and Support someone else I met yesterday - James "Eck" Eccles. He bought us all a drink after meeting Jez the night before so he gets my support now

Re: Virgin Festival this weekend
that link asked the same question as me.
A World of Poker :: A World of Poker Homepage
no they never as mine had a ?
shit its all over. let me see how we're all doing. This is a bit low key aint it? I suppose most of our poker forumers are actually away. Right thats it im gonna be Pokertube's top uploader. we need folks to be here. fcuk that poker forum aint busy either is it? problem with poker is that everyone wants to just go off playing it rather than talking about. I want to talk about every hand i play when i get the chance. I want to know the proper play and the correct play for each hand i play.
Can anyone get me up to speed with this? It all over and did anyone from TDP make any inroads?

Re: Virgin Festival this weekend
Well, it’s over and alas I didn’t make the money. Very disappointed with the way I went out – my own fault, and I must have spent all yesterday running through that hand again and again and what I should have done..
Anyhoo, enough of that for the moment.. I arrived in Newcastle in typical Trickrick disorganised style at the last minute due to complicated childcare arrangements... I got to the hotel at about 2.15 pm (you were meant to be at Aspers Casino at 2 pm and the game started at 3..) I jumped into the cab at 2.35 pm and jumped out at 2.40 pm outside The Gate (where Aspers was located) to find out that I had left my id in the hotel (it was needed for me to become a member). Flag down another taxi back to the hotel I go… At 2.50 pm I run to take my seat. And I hadn’t even had a drink..! My first table was quite a decent one – most were friendly and there was a bit of banter. My table also included some buxom poker journalist who was introduced at the beginning to everyone – I think her name was ‘Shelley’ or something? To be fair she was a very good player and took a few chips off me at the beginning. On my table there was also the ‘golden ticket’ winner whose number was drawn out for a seat. He didn’t play online – instead he did a fair bit of live poker and I overheard him talking about reaching the final table of some fancy event in Nottingham – another good player. We all started with 10,000 chips, and for the first couple of hours most played tight, stealing a few chips here and there, but through the few hours on that table there was no all-in’s and I ended up leaving the table with about 9000 chips, so although below the average stack, the blinds were such that there was plenty left there..
My second table put me 2 seats to the left of Kris, although I didn’t realise that for about an hour. He seemed to be playing some steady but solid poker, stealing a few of my big blinds!! He also pulled off one of the moves of the weekend that I saw. I’m sure he’ll explain better, but he pulled off a massive bluff with a all-heart flop when he was well behind.. This was the table that saw me take 2 massive pots which set me up for the rest of the night. The first involved me (I think in late position) being dealt AQ. A guy in early position raised to around 1500 – with about 9k still I called, but then the shortstacked BB reraised all in with about 3000 chips. The original raiser (with about 18k) then reraised to about 8k which put me in a quandary. He obviously had a monster hand, but with a thought in the back of my head that I was due some luck after the last Festival (when my AA was took out by 88) I reraised all-in. Cue Tikay and his mic…Whenever there was an all-in he came across and did the live commentary. We all turned over our cards and sure enough the big guy had AK. The small stack had KJ, and so my AQ was looking pretty sad, although I felt a bit better by the fact that 2 Kings were already out. Anyhow the flop was dealt..
….Q – Q – 6.. Get in there!! Not sure what the rest were but I won the hand, and the look on the AK guy was classic.. Nicely up to around 20k or so..
Not that long after that I was dealt pocket queens, and after reraising some guy he was committed to all-in and his Jacks were not beaten by my ladies. The Queens were doing me some favours !!!
I took a small blow when dealt AK as big blind and the short stack went all-in with 33 which held up, but apart from that it was a decent sesh. I missed Kris losing a large chunk as I went for a beer, so after the break he wasn’t in such good state and shortly after he went out when he was forced to go all-in with his Ace-rag which was beaten by some hand.
I probably ended up leaving that table with around 30,000+, and I went to the final table of the evening which also had the chipleader (and the git that ultimately took me out in Day 2).. It was at this table that I pulled off a mega bluff. I’d probably had about 7 pints of Kronenberg by now, so things were a little hazy, but having dealt suited A2 I raised the Blinds to which was called by the BB. Flop was something like Q-J-6 and I played aggressively – again called. I suspected he had Q 10 or something, but I remember thinking shiitt.. The turn was a K, and my gut instinct was that this would be a good card for me, so I played it very strongly with 10k staring at him as if to say ‘I’ve got you’. Inside I was churning around and I could feel my heart thumping away. The guy had a really strop cursing the turn card and folded his cards and slammed his stone that he kept on top of his cards heavily on the table.. Ooops..Better not show him my cards..
That was enough for me to finish Day 1 with 53,000 chips in 14th place with 49 left.

Re: Virgin Festival this weekend
As I had been playing throughout the day I hadn’t really met anyone else apart from Kris (and Colbro who I had already met in Birmingham at the last Festival and who was at the Bar at the tea break), but obviously once the Main Event had finished for the day this got me to a chance to meet the others. If I remember rightly there was Diane, Ed, Jezza, Betfly, Rej as well. All really nice people. Diane did a stirling job in organising the Inter-Forum team, as I (for one) was getting to the point of a drunken stupour, and a bit pokered-up. Still I tried to raise my game for the STT. This was a good – if very relaxed game and I ended up just missing out on the money finishing 4th after my short stacked 33 was beaten by the chipleader’s 55.. Not sure how anyone else did, although my drunken recollection was that both Jezza and Rej were both doing ok. I had had to stagger off then as it was about 3 am and I was knackered. Somehow I managed to walk back and find the hotel via ‘beer-radar’, and after making my way through a sea of stag and hen do’s I found my bed..
Man, did I feel shit Sunday morning. Woke up about 10 am and consumed copious amounts of disgusting tap water from the sink. As a zombie I just laid there – no paracetomols and feeling crap. Realising I had to drive to The Gate, I then spent about an hour trying to park up, and after devouring a macdonalds at about 11.30 I went back to the Casino to get myself seated.
I had a bad feeling about this day, and it wasn’t just the stomach and pounding head.. I felt hot and bothered, dehydrated and generally shite. To be honest I couldn’t think properly either. I was seated next to some Pro called Maria, who I had never heard of, but who was very fit. I think my stale beer breath put her off her breakfast that she had been served at the table, and I think she started to get annoyed at my inability to keep up with the ante’s.!! Anyhoo I played tight generally until the fateful moment when all logic went out of the window..
I was dealt pocket 9’s under the gun. I decide to do a decent raise of about 12k, as my theory was that as I had played so tightly, the players would automatically assume – unless they had a monster - that I had a premium hand and therefore fold, giving me a few more chips to play with. Sure enough everyone else folded except the BB who decided to reraise me another 12k. He had a large stack and I was puzzled why he would do (what was) a small reraise. So think tank in place, I started to guess his hand. However the think tank was low on inspiration due to the hangover and I struggled to consider anything with any real logic. Should I fold? This would leave me in semi-bad position, as I was BB next, but not fatal.. Should I call and hope to see a decent flop? In the end I went all-in and as soon as I did I knew it was a bad mistake. Cue Tikey and his mic, and a rather large audience, as the pot was a massive 110,000 and the winner would be pushing the chip leader or in his case (be the chipleader).. He turns over pocket 10’s.. My heart sinks, although I was surprised not to see a better hand than that. As you can guess, no joy with the cards and I’m out in around 38th. I go into a real downer straight after –not helped by the natural hangover depression that had already set in. I say a few words to the guys there, but I was ready to go home. To be fair in my normal pessimistic style I hadn’t ‘budgetted’ to be there for the second day and I had told my babysitters that I would be back for lunchtime! So with that in the back of the mind, and the fact I was a bit upset as I knew I played the hand badly, I said a quick farewell and went. Apologies to all the guys there if I seemed a bit offish just wanting to get away, but that’s why..
Anyhow that aside it was a great experience, and I am still quite pleased I lasted until then, which was more than I expected. Again, it was great to put faces to names and everyone was much better than I expected. Normally people who hide behind aliases in a forum are nothing what their online persona’s are like, but in this case they all seemed better!
Hopefully see you all at the next one !

Re: Virgin Festival this weekend
To get to the most important part of your post first trick - the lady you were sitting next to was Maria Demitreau who was in the last series of late night poker. It is on pokertube should you wish to study her play in case you sit next to her again .GIF) .
Bad luck with the 99's as well - I'm guessing you were below 10 times the big blinds by this time (or at least close to it) so it seems like an unlucky cold deck to me. If you watch some of the videos people were playing and winning with worse hands.

Re: Virgin Festival this weekend
it was good to put some faces to names at last,
had a great weekend even if the cards were bad.
i think we finished 3rd overall in the forum challenge.
anyway here is my story,
MAIN EVENT
10k starting chips and to start with hourly blinds dropping to 40 minute blinds after 3rd level...
bit up and down to start with and lost 4k chasing a flush but got it back when the easiest guy to read was trying to bluff an ace..was sitting on table 22/23 and soon got moved as players were knocked out.
i get A/J Spades and raise 5xBB and get 1 caller,Flop is A/Q/8,i raise and he goes All-in,i cover him buy 1400 chips,i am reading that he has the Q and is trying to push me off the pot so call,he has Q/8 turn and river no help. when i ask why he called my pre-flop raise with Q/8 he replies cos it was SUITED....jeez.
so i am now short-stacked and get my hated 9/9 but with no choice i am all-in, 2 are raising and calling,,,flop comes down 9/rag/rag they are both all-in then and each has K/K woohoo,so i am back in the game with a nice quadruple up.
i get moved again not long after and with only 3k left i have A/Q Hearts, big stack goes all-in and i am calling,he has A/10 i am very happy here for about 5 seconds when the 1st card on the flop is a 10,and with no help on the board i am out 154/226.
one consolation and i am waiting for confirmation and fingers-crossed,i may have won the WII Bowling challenge,

Re: Virgin Festival this weekend
Fuck I'm annoyed, just spent half an hour doing a report and then when I tried to post it I had logged out.
Ok, not big on reports second time round so I'll keep it brief. Started well and went from 10k to 12/13k ish in a short time, a few bluffs and a few decent hands. After about an hour I had a bluff that went badly wrong on a QTT board, guy showed my his AT and now I have 2k. So, many many bluffs later I get back to where I started so i decide it's time for another bluff with my 37 off, so, raise re-raise etc and the flop comes KT2, I bet big and after much thought the guy folds his AK and declared my betting reeked of a set. He wasn't the happiest guy in the room when I showed him what I had. Wee while later I get my first real hand in the shape of KK, now I've been bluffing a lot so I decide to use this to my advantage and I push all in from early position and get 2 callers from late position. I'm thinking hopefully the have AK AQ type hands, they show QQ and JJ, nothing on boeard and now I have 30k. A bit after the dinner break my table is broken up which wasn't good for me, felt I had bossed my first table and now I couldn't get away with anything. So, much much later I get dealt JJ late, guy before me with exactly same chips as me pushes, need to call, no way I'm putting that down, I call, Tikay arrives with the microphone and declares the guy I'm "in" with is a bounty as he won the first Virgin Festival, 2 free flights to Las Vegas no less, anyway he shows AQ diamonds and now I'm preying for the best hand to hold up, 4 diamonds out on board and my tournament is over.
Forum challenge was a bit of a non starter for me due to being completely buckled, well it was half 1 in the morning. First hand I strike a deal with Brian (MCFC) who agrees to call if I push first hand, I see AJ and in they go, Brian obliges and his 55 hold up, very early exit.
Was great to meet all the guys, vaguely recall meeting Rick very late on day 1, he looked pissed Special mention to BIG Colin who drove a long way to meet us all, very much appreciated. Rej and Kris the foreigners, pair of lovely guys. Big lollopy Jez who kept us going all day yesterday. Joe the Tic supporter betfly. Big Brian, always a pleasure, Alan great to see yi again.
Few from other places who were nice enough to come introduce themselves, Heniek nice to meet you, Spanner, and you, Borok (?) who was on my table good bloke. Big Ben 8'7 uber chap quality guy. Gerry from Hamilton. Fuck this is starting to look like an oscars speech Wee Fonzie who looks more like Henry Winkler than Henry Winkler. Big tricky dicky washman, Duncan I cashed in the Oz millions and his lovely lady Helen. Right, enough, this is getting ridiculous, If I've missed anybody I apologise.
