Help Req Writing Song For Eurovision '08

Ok im a great believer that you should try everything once in your life barr the obvious (killing and sodomy) so this year is my year of sitting in trying my hand at new ideas and trying new stuff. 2006 will be the year i tried to get a song into Eurovision.

I have never written a song before and dont think of myself particuarly musical though i can bang out a few chords on the guitar and piano but i dont think you need to have too mush talent in writing a Euro entry you just need to add the formulated ingredients

Ok so to start somewhere we/i need to think about how popluar music is going and to work out the 'formula'.

I think we need a chorus that is repeative but also is a god tag line and be good to repeat in your head either through catchiness of the vocal melodyor in the line striking a chord within me.

I'd also like to try tried and trusted chord changes. A bit like Busted's All About You. That isnt really a song but a frankenstein song made up of all the best changes that the beatles ever done. Can anyone think of any examples of songs with killer changes. As i say theres a lot of work to be done but i would like to think we could come up with at least an efort to enter.

I know Axeman has the facilities and i presume some song writing ability a si think i heard him mention last summer he was still writing and recording his own tunes.

Ive no idea what kind of song we'll do or the lyrics but if you have any nice little catchy meaningfull lines that you always thought would be great in a song then add them. Also if you like popular music then mention 1 or 2 songs for me to listen to as i aint that up on it. I would end up trying to write a Destinys Child song ...we're pumpin pumpin

aye it aint gonna be easy but im determined to have something to show for our efforts. If anyone wants to co-write the song then feel free to add to this thread in Music forum as the time goes on. I'd say we'd need a tune for Nov but we can check in time. I suggest we get a classy chick to sing it and we do all the music ourselves. Mickeypaul is a dab hand with electronic/computer music too and im sure theres more musicians who could add their bit but i say we keep it simple to begin. Ok i'll have a think of a chorus as i go and we'll take it from there. It aint gonna be easy.

I love the idea Komp - i think you should look into the hip hop market, rnb kind of thing. Its like the biggest genre in the world right now. Find some white kid that sounds alright and we have a money making machine - believe me!

aye maybe your right Kiko as there was a lot of entries based in that kind of way and like online poker and sunshine folks just cant seem to get enough of it. I got to admit that its my least liked type of music. Nah Kiko i mean R & B. aint that mpore popular than Hip Hop? I always think of body popping the King tut when i think of Hip Hop. How about some kind of Grandmaster Flash revival tune. The Message has that line so nicely nonchantly delivered in '...its like a jungle sometimes it make me wonder how i keep from going under'. Maybe with a bird singing differant words and the rythm...nah ill shut up.

2 years ago it was eurobeat with a touch of ethnic, last year was eurobeat with a touch of industrial + ethnic. This year it was euro beat with a touch of r&b??? So by my reckoning next year it will be Eurobeat with a touch of whatever is gonna be popular. The competition will be 2 weeks before the World Cup (we should do a WC song for a shitty nation too) Rock whilst not really doing that well this year was quite strongly supported. Maybe have a kickback from Franz Ferdinand etc as the europeans catch up with 'new new wave'.

We could have a Human League style nah what about a female Kraftwerk/Ladytron?

Hip hop is a genre that if you dont like it, you never will. Other genres are more open to all races, relgions etc and appeal to more people. A grandmaster flash revival - now that wouldnt be such a bad idea. Even singing over the beat - everyone knows it, everyone loves it. You'd have the place rocking, and with a nice looking girl singing it then your going places.

I think the whole european style like ABBA etc is finished with - the eurovision is starting to get up to scratch with what the current phase of music is, be that hip hop, rock etc.

And i forgot to answer - rnb isnt on the same level. Still massively popular with artists such as Usher, Alicia Keys etc but they sell nothing on the level of your Eminems, 50 cents and Nellys.

Ive been thinking Kiko. All we have to do is isolate ourselves from styles etc and just think about writing a song. I'll give the lyrics a go and Funkt and folks will help out im sure. As long as we do it as good as we can we'll be ok. Get some amzing talented young lassie in to sing it.

Regarding the style we just change the song to suit i suppose. I better see how many folks get to the auditions, I bet millions of folks write them every year thing is. theyre usually all failed song writers and we aint as we've never tried it. Just need that killer line in the chorus with some nice melody.

I have thought of another suggestion - my girlfriend pointed out today, "god, im going to take a song from the 80's and remix it into a good dance song like everyone else is doing these days". This is very true and very successful THROUGHOUT europe these kind of dance songs. So now Komp - find an old song, that most will know, that is very catchy and then we are on to something!

As for 'style'...well I've had this idea for a long time:
Kid Creole and The Coconuts had a brilliant hook with their "I'm a Wonderful thing, Baby"...total classic stuff for tunes that never leave your head....sample that and build on it.

Also, Blancmange: an 80's band with a twist...great tracks , but some were really catchy...Blind Vision; Don't Tell Me ; Living on the Ceiling...just three to sample, or steal the basic beats from

As for lyrics...I'm your man...lets have one line from all members and do it BOWIE style...random lines smashed together

" The TDP is where I wanna be...rhyming my shit, in a punting styleeee"

Aye your right Eddy i think that a killer line is esential. Aye why not have song of them. Ok errrr...i like the beat to Living on the Ceiling (classic TOTP that night inc that, New Order Thieve Like us and Human League The Lebanaon (their first bad single really)

I always liked Bowie's line 'I absolutely love you. aye better get the old thinking cap on but ill have plenty of time soon enough
