It wasn't until the night of Monday 5 November at 11pm that the Police brought Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito in for questioning.Whether it was routine or not at this hour to begin an interrogation is another matter. Miss Knox certainly didn't seem unduly worried at that stage-she was doing acrobatic exercises outside, splits and cartwheel spins,at a time when people in Britain would be gazing at Catherine Wheels and warming themselves at local bonfire and firework displays. Why should she be distressed at the death of Meredith Kercher? They were not particularly close, Meredith had complained on occasion that Amanda brought too many men back to the flat and didn't take her share of the household chores. However it was from Amanda's own mouth that night which came the story which would lead her to spend the next four years behind bars.
Amanda first claimed that she had been out of the house that night, spending the evening with Raffaele. When this was put to him he at first said his girlfriend was there, then that he had dozed off around 10pm and couldn't vouch for her whereabouts after that time. Sollecito himself had no alibi;he claimed to have been working on the computer at the time of the murder, but forensics ruled out any computer use that evening into the early hours of Friday.Amanda Knox then said her boss,Patrick Lumumba had been upstairs and may have murdered Meredith. Then a most damning admission. She had been there that night, she told investigators: " I heard Meredith scream..and I covered my ears."
Strangely enough we now turn to Rudy Guede, on whom neither Amanda Knox nor Raffaele Sollecito tried to pin the murder, yet against whom the most damning evidence was to be found. A smudged palm print of blood was found on the pillow, placing him there at the scene. Luminol was used to show that Amanda Knox had been walking on the bedroom carpet, landing and bathroom. Amanda's blood was also found in the bathroom, and her DNA on a knife handle in Sollecito's house. That on its own might not have been unusual, but on the same knife was found traces of Meredith's DNA. Sollecito's blood was also found on Meredith's bra clasp, suggesting that he had undone it on the night. It was this evidence which gave the Prosecution their case: Meredith Kercher had had her throat cut in a Satanic ritual game which had gone wrong. Her throat had been cut,yet there were no marks on her hands as if she had been putting up a struggle, therefore allegedly she had been held down by more than one person, then killed.
Rudy Guede at first said he had been in the toilet with headphones from an ipod and heard nothing on the night of the murder. He had evidently been told by his defence team that Prosection could place him inside the room through the bloody palm print. Rudy then changes his story

w he saw two Italian men coming out of Meredith's room who fled the scene. Then a third story: these two men were,in fact Amanda and Raffaele, and as he looked out of the window he saw them hurrying out of the house into the night.
We may never know exactly what happened that night. Was Rudy Guede's hatred of women so strong, women who had rejected him all his life, that when Meredith refused sex he brandished his 11 inch knife he had used to break into a nursery many years before, and slit her throat without a thought? Was the knife from Sollecito's collection, and wounds inflicted by both men. Did Amanda Knox walk into the blood-stained bedroom and formulate a cover-up which would not involve her boyfriend. Why had she previously made a video with a Nazi theme with her posing behind a machine gun, with Sollecito dressed in white garb wielding a meat cleaver? Or was Miss Knox just so infatuated with her boyfriend that she was eager to please? Was the break in staged,or did an intruder we have no knowledge of have a role in the killing? Guede has expressed "regret" at the killing, whilst Knox and Sollecito have remained silent, until that is,the cheque book journalism takes over. They are now both free,at least in one way,yet whether they now sleep soundly at night one can only imagine..
