The Meredith Kercher Case:a real life Hercule Poirot needed.
On 4th December 2009 Amanda Knox and her boyfriend Rafaele Sollecito were found guilty of Meredith Kercher's murder and sentenced to 25 and 26 years respectively. Rudy Guede had been tried separately after opting to be fast-tracked and was found guilty and sentenced to a similar punishment. And there, you may think, the case came to an end. Except that the Knox family in Seattle moved heaven, earth and Oprah Winfrey to get her acquitted.During the almost four years the defendents spent in prison the authorities would be listening in on electrical devices, and this time the defendents kept their mouths shut.Apart from Guede, who, ironically, was the only one to express regret at Meredith's killing, yet the only one to remain behind bars. At the appeal it was alleged that the DNA was contaminated, there wasn't enough on the bra clasp to retest,an eye-witness who claimed to have seen Miss Knox at the scene was revealed to be a heroin addict. In the view of the public prosecutor,Giuliano Mignini, the acquittal of the two was "a massive mistake",and there would be a third and final appeal. But nobody expects the USA to agree to her extradition. Now the book deal await, the press barons are smacking their lips, and Amanda Knox is an overnight multimillionairess, whilst Rafaele Sollecito has returned to his comfortable family. The dignity of the Kercher family has shone through this incident, never casting blame, always accepting the jurisdiction and verdict of the Italian court.Dignity, along withMeredith's scarred body, resting in a flower-strewn grave, close to their home of Coulsden,London.
