The end of free bank accounts?

Sorry about the unusual way of posting this but it occurs to me that this merits a wider audience than it would get if I just left it in the middle of one of my threads so I'm posting it with its own title.

HSBC has warned that ALL banks will have resorted to charging all customers for current accounts and credit cards WITHIN THE NEXT TWELVE MONTHS.

Bastards

Account holders will now wait with baited breath to see whether the reintroduction of charges is mentioned by the UK’s other leading banks when they unveil their profits later in the week. But with the entire industry affected by the OFT’s ruling and with bad debt an increasing problem in the UK, the reintroduction of fees in the near future looks extremely likely.

Its happened before and didnt last long, greedy bastards caused a stink a few yrs ago and it only takes a boycott and shift over to a bank offering a service for free to soon put them back on the right track.

Re: The end of free bank accounts?

When you see how much banks charge for folk going into the red ,its a surprise that they are still trying to screw the people the are providing a service for , i got stung for 30 quid a month or two back , i have two accounts in the same bank , one for my wages and a bills account , i transfer X ammount of pounds into the bills account every week , anyway , i got overdrawn on the bills account , it baffled me when i got a letter saying i was being charged 30 pound and an extra 10 pounds a day while the account was in the red , it turns out ( after i had to go down to the bank ) that they hadnt transferd X ammount into the bills account from my wage one , that was why i was overdrawn , i got a full refund but it pissed me off big style , i moved banks that day

Now that is a f**king headache......

Re: The end of free bank accounts?

That's the whole point guys, the Office of Fair Trading have made them all reduce those charges so they're looking for alternative ways to make money.

Slick - I think this time they will ALL agree to charge, leaving no room to blackmail them by moving to another bank.

They got their heads together to increase charges for credit card transfers recently because they were losing money by clever people constantly shifting their balance to a 0% interest option for six months. They've increased the one off transfer fee on this now in order to stop this from happening (or at least, make money from it).

I think this is going to happen.

If it does I'll be looking to the likes of the Nationwide Building Society which is still mutual and Must do what's best for the members.

Rip off Britain eh

We'll get charged for having our wages paid into the bank, the unions should demand an increase in wages to cover it.
