Re: Movies: Top 5 Favourite Performances of All Time

I have one that stuck with me since I was a kid and that was Ian Bannen in 'The Offense' which also happened to be one of Sean Connery's best performances. He was as amazing in that as always but I thought that was a cracker. Hard to even put Sean down in that one. Maybe his best.

edit: I'm guessing someone will mention it's about child abuse etc. and make a joke out of it. Fair enough; they were both very convincing.

And I give the fiinger to Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs as he was utterly brilliant in 'The Bounty'... errrr. as Captain Bligh. Easily better than the 'pantomime' villain he played im Silence of the Lambs.

And Anthony Hopkins makes my list again... for 'Magic'. Anyone that's seen the film will know the part I'm talking about. "Just... don't.... for 5 minutes.... don't.."

No?

Oh. Ok.

Sean Penn in Carlito's Way? Much as I dislike him, one of the best performances you'll ever see eh? EH!!??? Al Pacino was good too but never reached his level on that one. Eh? I'm too harsh? I'm fair? Huh? Eh? What?

Fine.

I thought Cathy Bates in Misery was superb, one of the most believable performances i've ever seen in fact , if i saw her in the street now i'd still give her a wide berth.
Actually downloaded this the other week as the daugter had never seen it, it was that good she never muttered a word all the way throught it, now thats a first.

Daniel day lewis in any movie,
thy will be blood, not a good movie I thought but cant fault his performance which I thought was unbelieveably top class, I dunno if he recieved oscar for that or not, but he deserved it, thinking back on his other movies, he probably deserves oscar for every movie he has been in.....
other actors
yeah hopkins, excellent, but he was in some turkeys as well the one with chris rock comes to mind,
one actor I like very much is Ben kingsley, any movie he is in, he is very hypnotic, maybe too strong a word but I find that when he comes on you have to pay attention to his actions and mannerisms, much like day lewis

Oh. Ok.
Magic scared me more than anyother late 70's film.

I was around 12 when i saw it.

I also liked Hopkins in Audrey Rose.

Best performances for me Jack Nicholson in As Godd as it gets.

I also like Ronald Colman in If I were King. (an old one from watching films sun afternoon in 1970's)

I thought Baloo was just awesome in the Jungle book, the way he taught Mowgli the law of the jungle n all that.

Daniel Day Lewis in 'In the name of the father' was outstanding. I've watched it 5 or 6 times & never fail to be moved by Emma Thompson in the court
